B.S. Crowton is only limited because of his lack of knowlege in designing an offense with some of the most talented players in america. He has had two years to bring a QB around with some of the best recruits that could be found. Jefferson's confusion is Crowtons problem. He is paid to teach, train and mentor him to the abilities and scheme he wants to run. Don't discount the talent that he fails to consistently use both on and off the field. Outside of a couple of sec schools, there is not one offensive coordinator in the country who would have loved to have had his problem.

I can't believe you're defending Crowton. Lee was thrown to the wolves last year and the play calling this year has been horrendous. Crowton is a terrible coach and needs to be replaced immediately. I only hope Miles replaces him with someone who puts an emphasis on developing young quarterbacks.

That's the bar with QB's now?

It should be. My position is that a team has very little chance for success at the BCS level unless you have a draft worthy QB. Not a QB who will star in the pro's, but at least drafted. Looking back, LSU had a great run of having it's QB's drafted.

I think that's a bit steep and a bit too much to expect out of that position year in and year out.

Look at the UGA game.

If Jefferson could duplicate just one thing:

His ability to shoot forward out of the pocket when the play breaks down, we could be so dangerous. He saved us against UGA when he ran 26 yards to a first down.

He is trying to make a play when he holds onto the ball. He is still elusive for a qb and should use that characteristic.

Remember, even if he only gains two yards, it is better than a 6 yard sack. We would have less drive killing sacks if:

He does what Crowton tells him to, RUN!
Or if he does what is natural for an athletic qb.

Question:

IS Crowton telling him to run or throw it out of bounds?

I agree it's too much to expect every year, but I do believe that you have to develop your program to produce draft worthy QB's to have a chance to compete for a BCS title. It was too much to expect of Lee last year, and JJ this year. My problem is that I saw very little in JJ which leads me to believe that he'll ever develop into a draft worthy QB.

He does this because he lacks the poise to find his WR's.

no ...Crowton is telling him to lock on one receiver, take a sack and put us out of field goal range, make wrong reads, not learn his checks, to over throw critical passes....he is not a very good QB..he is a good athlete who is playing QB...that is it...

Agreed; I doubt even with some polishing that he'd ever be considered for the NFL. However, I do think that some of his mechanics are correctable and I do think that with that, along with some other offensive overhauls, that LSU can compete for titles with JJ at QB.

Certainly you were. But the flipside is that coaching should also improve individual technique.

Yep, and I hope JJ can and will. After this season, it might be 6 of one and a half dozen of the other.

But, I'll support him and I have seen good things from him, if not just terribly inconsistently. A more pressing concern is that there's really no one else that can be thrown into that position at this time.

maybe one of them smiley faces might have pointed that out. all the attacks on the coaches and players on this board it's hard to tell when someone is being sarcastic or not, and you have these people on here who think they can read minds and know what the coaches are telling the players and all that shite is completely asinine.......
