Conf champ for MNC game?

This isnt a whining thread about playing bama again, but it raised a thought thats been argued back & forth, so what is the rants opinion? Should the BCS require that only conf champs can be considered for championship game? Ive heard the arguments about wild cards winning championships so its not a big deal (robert smith), but to me, thats fine in a playoff system. It just seems to be a no-brainer to me that BECAUSE of NO playoff system, then the provision of conf champ should apply to the current system. What say the rantards?
