Calling the game last night, Herm Edwards stated that Lsu's offense has a lot of playmakers but the offensive coaches put them into too many "complex formations" making the QB to have to think about too much pre-snap rather than just letting them line up and play. IMO, this is the reason why RR said he didn't know what he was doing out there last year and why he wasn't more effective last year, why the freshman rb's can't get on the field as much as we would like and why the QB's at LSU have struggled since 2007. Crowton's offense is complicated and so much has been said on here before. I recall someone commenting that there might be five formations where they run a dive b/t tackle and guard, etc. I assume that the complication makes it harder to predict and defend once it is executed efficiently by the players.

Herm was just plain awful. He shouldn't be calling college game. Or any games for that matter.

why was herm awful?

I like hearing from coaches..

He seemed to like our D and he saw what we saw on the offense.. accuracy issues and too many formations

Yeah Herm Edwards, a respected NFL mind, was awful at analyzing a college football game.........

The rant is funny.

1987-1989 San Jose State University
(offensive assistant)

1990-1991 Kansas City Chiefs
(scout)

1992-1995 Kansas City Chiefs
(defensive backs coach)

1996-2000 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
(assistant head coach and
defensive backs coach)

2001-2005 New York Jets
(head coach)

2006-2008 Kansas City Chiefs
(head coach)

So a former NFL scout and almost 20 years experience in the NFL can't analyze a cfb game.

I like Herm, and he was spot on. I hate Gary Crowton's offense.

Pretty much. Just Like Brees in New Orleans, you never know what he will run next. Or what they will call next. Every play seems to have different personnel at times and different formations. When run right, it give the opponent fits. When you dont have a qb that can run this style of offense, it looks bad. And right now it looks dam near aweful.

They need to cut this mythical playbook down, a lot. Do other schools recruit players much smarter than ours? Then why the hell are their underclassmen able to come in and make a difference, and presumable understand the playbook?

Not because he doesn't know the game, but because IMO he was trying to play both sides of the fence, and really wasn't being honest about things because of the TV camera.

what's so complicated about what you say last night? was it the 25 dives? was it the one completion to a wheel route?

hell, did they even run more than 5 different plays?

I agree with this. Gary has got to realize he does not have have a qb in JJ that can grasp so many plays, so many formations etc. Keep things as simple as possible. But GC insist that he call every single play in the world. Find a handful of plays you are really good at. And run those plays over and over. Make that a staple of your offense. And go from there.

I thought Herm was a good change. "Hear Again", at least we didn't have to hear fat boy Vern.

The television has a way of making you say things you know aren't true in order to either not say what you really feel, or keep it interesting. I don't believe that he believed what he was saying.

Herm was right on with that call, just too much BS he had JJ doing just to hand it off to Ridley!
