Hey all, going down to Baton Rouge for our first game against Auburn. Really looking forward to it, but we are coming down from Massachusetts and not familiar with the experience/area at all. We were thinking about renting a car and buying a tailgate spot. Would this be the best idea or should we just wing it and walk around? Where is the best place to tailgate? Where do we go after the game?
Thanks for any help.

First of all congrats on your first game. You'll love it, as there is nothing better than Death Valley at night. How many people will you have with you?

Just come down and wing it.
Most people tailgating are friendly. Tell them where you're from and they'll feed you and make you feel welcomed.
Bring your own booze.
Just move around from tailgate to tailgate.
If you're fans of another team other than Auburn, wear your gear and LSU fans will know to hook you up.

Have fun and Geaux Bayou Bengals!

Walk around the campus....maybe in clothing from your neck of the woods....people will invite you to eat and drink with them. Go see Mike's habitat....watch the team come down the hill...watch the band march in...get some ice cream at the dairy....check out the union and bookstore....hit chimes and walkons if you're hungry for a sit-down meal....profit!!

buying a tailgate spot

Not a thing. Unless you meant buying a parking pass, which is not necessary.

Levee lots near the river are free and not far from the stadium. Less than 1/4 mile.

Who do y'all pull for? Are y'all BC or Umass fans? I ask because it would be a good idea to wear that gear to the game. You'll be taken care of by every tailgate.
Make your way to Mike's habitat at some point.
Watch the players walk down the hill.
If you check this site later this week they'll be a thread with "times of interest" for game day.
It'll give you an idea when everything happens.

How old are y'all? If you're in college and want to see the young ladies, go to Fred's in Tigerland, you won't be disappointed.
Walk-ons is near campus also.

Parking and after game traffic can be a cluster. Let the board know where y'all will be staying so you can get good advise on where to park and to get tailgating tips for that area.

Sure hope it ends up being a night game so you can get the full Death Valley experience.

Some bars/restaurants to check out near LSU or downtown:
-Chimes
-Walk-On's
-Pastime
-Fred's (bar)
-Bogies (bar)
-Third Street (downtown street full of bars)

Don't know if you've been lately, but the only free parking is definitely near the river, and a whole lot more than 1/4 mile away.

Meh. Syracuse game (and others) were underwhelming.
