COLLEGE FOOTBALL'S 25 MOST OVERHYPED PLAYERS, COACHES AND TEAMS FOR 2017

BR article by Brad Shepard

quote:

New LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is about to start his first full season at his dream job, and after making a brilliant offensive coordinator hire in Matt Canada to go along with Dave Aranda on defense, the Tigers may have two of the best assistants in all of college football.

They're also never going to have an issue recruiting, sitting on that hotbed of talent with the relentless Orgeron at the helm. He is better than most nationally when it comes to luring players.

So, why is LSU on the overhyped list for 2017?

The Tigers just have too much on the roster they have to replace.

Orgeron will be successful on the Bayou eventually, and the Tigers are going to have a fine season in '17. But they won't compete for the SEC West. That's going to be between Alabama and Auburn.

LSU is still searching for a great quarterback, and while Danny Etling is a good game manager, he isn't a game-changer. At running back, the Tigers lost Leonard Fournette, but they'll replace him with elite junior Derrius Guice.

It's the other places where they'll have major gaps to fill, including replacing two starters on each level of the defense. The toughest of those will come in the defensive backfield where safety Jamal Adams and cornerback Tre'Davious White are gone.

Orgeron is rebuilding LSU nicely, and the Tigers will be a force in the SEC soon. But it won't be in '17.

Thoughts?

I kind of agree with the main theme that we aren't going to play for a championship. But overated? Growth is needed on D but I think Aranda is more than capable of getting people to understand his D. Look how quickly our D got it last year. It took a couple of weeks but then they started dominating.

Etling may be a game manager, but so is every Bama QB of the Saban era.

I'm just not getting all the Auburn love. Plus we have them at home this year. Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with their roster to think they'll be a better team than us (objectively speaking).

We are going to skull drag Auburn. Not getting the AU love. The west will come down to the Bama game like always.

Defense will be better because the Dline will be better this year. Offense can only go up for numerous reasons I will not even state. Playoffs or bust this year frick this dude!

Those people were once in a position to replace someone else. Dumb.

Everyone is too dumb to realize that a good "game manager" is a game changer! We have top talent at all skill positions, just managing the game and getting it to those guys is all we need.
So yes, he is absolutely a game changer. Keeping defenses honest and guessing is better than him having 4.4 speed.

i know. It happens every year to every team. D White is going to be a star. Maybe not in the 1st 4 weeks, maybe not this year but he will. And DBU id always next man up.

We are going to skull drag Auburn at home, like we have every year since 2007.

I could see where people would doubt winning the west,
the guy has a few points. Thing is on Defense Aranda runs it without the thought of all star players on the field. Look how he made the talent at Wisconson look great, and they were not elite players. Guess the point
is he doesn't need that to make the defense work.
As far as the offense goes who knows, I'm sure we will
see improvement, we did last year with the coaching change, will it be enough for the best D's we face?

I'm not either, but I'm fine with it. They tend to flop when lofty preseason expectations are placed upon them.
