So if our pitching had turned out like we had expected it to this year we would be really good?

surprisingly enough our batting statistics are pretty good compared to the rest of the league.

Yes, but on the flip side, if we were hitting like everyone expected us to, this would not be a fun season at all. The record is actually about where we expected it to be, it's just surprising how we've gotten there.

Eye popping stats- SEC games only

OBP: #1 .387
SLg%: #2 .420
Fld%: #3 .980
HBP: #1 35- 9 above #2

3 Tigers in the top 6 of OBP (Bryce, Reid, Kramer)
Romero- #4 in RBI in league

According to the SEC only stats we have clearly the #2 offense in the league. Pitching is about middle of the pack in terms of statistics.

I agree with your assessment of the teams situation...but as our bullpen is getting better along with Lange, our other 2 starters have regressed the last few weekends...after seeing Gilbert pitch hopefully he has found his place...

I'm definitely impressed with his progress since he got thrown into the starting lineup.

If you have to give me one or the other, I'd rather the better hitting for this team. It's more entertaining and you feel we are never out of the game. See Saturday vs. Arkansas

The game thread negatigers don't believe you.

Something that likely influences a lot of fans perception about our offense is the batting average with runners in scoring position. While our SEC games only BA is .304, the BA with RISP drops to .275.

Another offensive stat many Ranters would probably lose money on if they bet is our BA against lefty pitchers. It's much higher, .344, than our average is against right-handed pitchers, .294 (SEC games only).

Which explains why our OBP is so high, yet we struggle to score runs at times.

But even still our offense is either #1 or #2 in most categories, and is still top 5 in just about all of them.

Reducing the "effectiveness" of our high OBP is the fact that we've had the second highest number of runners caught stealing (16) and the second highest number of grounded into double plays (17) in SEC play. That's 33 batters who got on base but were erased before they could get a chance to score. We've also had some runners picked off of base but I can't seem to find that stat in the SEC statistics.

well we're second in runs scored in conference play, so all of that is kind of a wash wouldn't you think?
