It seemed to work didn't it? He took one of the worst Bball programs in D1 to multiple NCAA tournaments and conference championships. It's not like he inherited some traditional power and turned them into crap.

Most mid majors have to play a fast paced, pressing style of basketball to win. That way they can compensate for their lack of size.

Understand your frustration with CJJ. Always referred to him a JJ on gomeangreen.com message board. Sometimes JJ players can be inconsistent. Happened at UNT and some of us were frustrated also. JJ like Rudy T. of Houston Rockets fame would let his players play sometimes what is/was inconsistently, but in doing so gave his players the opportunity to learn, mature, and play together. CJJ isn't one to try to micro manage his players on court play. This get frustrating. Players have to learn how to play together and mature on court. When LSU gets to the Dance and they will in pressure packed situation these players are going to have to play with maturity, hart and will to win. CJJ isn't going to be able to call a TO in every pressure packed situation to teach maturity and will to win. It's better his players learn how to do this during the season than the SEC tournament or at the Dance.

Don't worry to much CJJ has the uncanny ability to have his teams ready and peaking right at Sunbelt/SEC tournament time and for the Dance. Keep the faith, CJJ will have LSU ready to play come tournament time and his team will preform past your expectations. At least that's what happen for many years at UNT.

Truth is if LSU doesn't want CJJ as a fan I'd gladly have him back at UNT. Our current coach after JJ is running our program back into the ash heap!!! UNT BB has long success of absolute dismal failure, CJJ changed all that, now we're backsliding into the pit of Hell!!!

Have faith in CJJ, he won't let you or LSU down in the long run. Can't say LSU will be national champion this year, but give CJJ the time he needs and he'll make the LSU nation proud!!!!

Yeah it's called improvement, something that usually takes time when you take over for a coach that had a .187 winning percentage at school that's never won a conference title.

Thanks for your words! The biggest difference I see is that in the SEC you don't want to wait till the tournament to play your best basketball. This isn't a 1 bid conference. You want to lock up a spot in the tournament during the year. Still looking forward to him getting it together. He has brought some great players in so let's hope it all works out.

I don't think LSU fans realize it's going to take a while to undo the damage Trent wrought on our program. They seem to think because we had one good recruiting class we should dominate.

Sure you can, when the difference is statistically significant.

Of all the Basketball posters, i respect your input the most. But with all the analysis, taking emotion completely out of it, we have some talented players on this team...McDonald All-Americans, etc. It just seems that at times they lack hustle, exhibit poor technique, take really bad shots, and the defense is just non-existent. Are these players overrated? We are losing to teams that we are far superior to talent wise. I want to give CJJ the benefit of the doubt and give him a solid 5 years but normally well coached teams improve and not digress. Am I off base?

This is UNT's first year in C-USA. When CJJ was our coach we were in the Belt. CJJ recruited Tony Mitchell now with the Piston's. Our freaking new coach couldn't coach is way out of a paper bag and wasted a year of Tony Mitchell's time at UNT. Tony Mitchell only 1/2 season under CJJ and did very well.

I know y'all want to lock things up during the season because SEC isn't a 1 bid league. Just have a little patients. It's frustrating to lose to inferior teams, but have faith and trust CJJ, he knows what he's doing!!! LSU will be fine, mark my words. CJJ will make the LSU nation proud!!!

If not give him back to UNT. Our AD would have to eat a bunch of crow because he has a freaking "Man Crush" on our current looser of a coach. It's like having Tent at LSU with no ability to get ride of him!!!

Winning 50% at UNT is solid.

Check out some of the non-conference games they were playing, I would venture to guess most of these would give Southern little competition.

UNT is a Sun Belt team, what do you expect from them?

You do realize this isn't football right? With the recruiting class we brought in combined with the existing pieces, no doubt this should be a tournament team. No excuse not to make the NCAA this year.

Well let's not act like winning 50% of your games at North Texas is some huge feat, especially when your record is padded with beating these really bad teams.

It's a pretty decent feat when they were a <.200 team prior to Jones getting there. Beating comparable programs isn't padding your record.

That's not really how this works, either. Any time you combine new guys with guys from the old regime, so to speak, there are risks in terms of chemistry and such. And we are missing some key pieces required of a solid tourney team. I thought we'd be on the bubble/in the NIT this year. I'm definitely disappointed in our effort the last few games, but next year and the following year are "do-or-die" in my eyes. Let's let Jones get all of his guys in here before we jump ship. I think just having longer guards will do wonders for us.

ETA: And GODDAMN we are missing a Carmouche type guy this year. A coach on the court who will bring the intenisty every single night.

Are these comparable?

University of the Southwest
Cameron
Henderson St.
Oklahoma-Panhandle St.
St. Gregorys
La Sierra
Huston-Tillotson

These are the worst of the worst.....I didn't even reach for teams like Loyola Marymount, Southeastern, Columbia, UNO

I had a conversation with someone recently and I asked who would you change out for someone else in our conference to make LSU better. There were a few people, but overall, I really like each individual player. However, something about the makeup of the squad, coaching, playcalling, hustle, attitude, etc is off. Looking at each piece, we shouldn't lose games to aTm on the road.

Im not sure what needs to be fixed. I don't think it's Jones, but he may need to change some of his ways because at the end of the day, no matter what the problem, it's all on the head guy.

That's no more record padding than any other team's out of conference record. I'm not sure what he would need to do at UNT to be considered impressive. UNT is a shitty basketball school in a shitty basketball conference and Jones was the most successful coach to pass through there.

Whether he succeeds at LSU remains to be seen, but to act like he didn't do something impressive by turning around North Texas is just absurd.

The same thing that every coach LSU hires should do, be undefeated at their previous school while only playing top 25 teams.
