Fournette got absolutely tackled when he was targeted on a screen pass last night. Is that legal/not holding because he's behind the LOS, a receiver not more than 5 yards downfield? The ref clearly saw it/made no call. What's the rule there?

Legal if it's before the ball was thrown.

Looked to me that it was after from the stands in real time, but no flag.

He was tackled long after the ball was thrown way over his head. Just like the other screen passes we tried to run.

Happens a lot, even in the NFL. The pass usually has to be right on the money for them to call it. The refs said it was uncatchable

So if the ball hand't been thrown & he was behind the LOS, he could have been tackled?

Not so much tackled, but treated like a blocker and occupied by a defender.

No flag b/c ball was uncatchable. If contact occurs before the ball is thrown it is called defensive holding after pass interference. Am I right??

K, so y'all are saying no flag because it was ruled uncarchable.

What's the rule in general. When can an RB be legally tackled in that situation? Some have said "before the ball is thrown". That right?

Is the RB's location, relative to the LOS even relevant? Can't believe I don't know this rule, but apparently he CAN be tackled (when targeted as a receiver) depending on something, unless, as someone stated, refs just don't call it/ball essentially has to hit him in the arse on the way to the ground.

Thanks. Sounds like it's a judgement call by the official?

AT first glance i thought for sure.

But the replay clearly shows LF being brought down as the ball sails over his head. It wasn't even so much of it being uncatchable, as it was the defender anticipating a tackle at the point of when the ball would have been caught.

Watch the replay. They got the call absolutely correct.

Ball has to cross the line of scrimmage which I think it did. Side men need help from umpire to determine that.

if its behind the LOS and the RB is tackled,, it is defensive holding. If the defender engages the RB as if he was being blocked, then its not usually a penalty. Think about defensive holding along the LOS. When a defensive lineman drags down an OL, then that is holding. If they are engaged in blocking, then everything is fine. Same thing goes.

No, he can't. Don't listen to those people. You can't blatantly tackle any eligible receiver
