I wouldn't have opted out, but I'll never be in the same situation Terrace is so I'll never have to make that decision. Sometimes all you have in this world is yourself and your family. He made a decision he thinks is the best for himself. And if he thinks it's for opting out and preparing for the NFL, then more power to him.

0 for 2.

Again, if his teammates don’t care why do you?

I'm not a pussy, so I wouldn't quit and I certainly wouldn't tell the rest of the team not to quit and then quit after the next game.

Try a little critical thinking. The question at hand is whether he quit or not. What do his teammates caring have anything to do with it?

This is how you are able to rationalize a very simple concept - start something, finish something.

Yikes - that’s not the question at hand. Using a straw man argument while simultaneously calling out someone’s ability to think critically. That’s great, kudos

No where in this thread have I or anyone posed the question “did he quit?”. Yes, he quit - that’s obvious. So what? The thread is evaluating his decision and asking what others would do.

Have you ever quit a job? Left a company for another one? His teammates feeling matters here because the context of this decision. Quitting is acceptable - people quit jobs every day and often it’s a good decision for that individual, just like this one. It’s similar to leaving a company on good terms - does it hurt the company? Yes. Do your coworkers Or boss get mad at you? No, not if you do it the right way. His teammates and coaches aren’t upset with him, because it’s a sound decision and they understand it.

He probably left because even after he asked the team to not quit, it looked like the still quit (especially the offense). Why keep putting it all on the line for 3 meaningless games, when the rest of the offense looks like they're going thru the motions... even the coaches look as though they're in over their heads, but you expect him to lead them.

TigerFan - there is a risk for me to continue in this thread, as your use of fallacy will lead to a circular argument, while the reward is quite low.

Therefore, I am "opting out" of this thread.

I'd bet there are at least a few guys raised with the mentality of finishing out a committment, so I don't know why you keep saying that.

Look, Marshall was a great player and a good guy too. He made a decision he felt was best, but some will be critical of how he went about it. Speaking to to the team about the importance of finishing out the season the best they can and then leaving the team before its most difficult opponent is not the ideal way for him to go out.

I ain't mad at TM. With his injury history and the state of our offense, in addition to the whole team sucking arse, I would have probably made the same decision. An injury could cost him multi millions of dollars.
It just looks pretty shitty after his "pep talk", and the quotes attributed to him after. But, whatever, we aren't in contention for shite, and this just gives the young guys more experience and chances to make plays against top competition.

I dropped out of LSU for 13 dollars an hour. He would be risking millions to keep playing. I don't blame him one bit and wish him the best.

So now if at any point the season goes to to shite the team needs to stop playing? What's the point?

I promise you none of his teammates or coaches blame him or look down upon him for the decision.

You would be wrong. I bet some of his team mates are resentful. He calls them out and makes a big deal about finishing the season and now he quits. It shows a lack of character.

It’s impossible for me to put myself in Marshall’s shoes. I didn’t need NFL money to become wealthy; he does. That’s a big difference in circumstances, and it makes it impossible to consider what I would do in his shoes. I would have played, BTW, because the competition would have been far more important to me than any NFL money.

I don’t mind him leaving. The game has been a charade for many years now.

I remember that time Devin White opted out of the bowl game because he had a business decision to make. /s

I would’ve done it before the season. I absolutely would not do it before the toughest opponent this late in the season. That’s just a bitch move where I come from.
