top choice last year, but Alleva wouldn't budge on the 2 years with Les Miles clause.

Aranda's contract this year is better.

Where's the source on this?

Was this just completely made up by the Rant?

It was in a NOLA article. I believe Kleinpeter wrote it. Says that exact thing.

Those with knowledge of Aranda's hire said he was one iof LSU coach Les Miles' top picks a year ago. But Aranda wouldn't budge from Wisconsin because LSU athletic director Joe Alleva only wanted to offer a two-year deal with that silly clause saying the school would only owe its assistants six months pay if Miles was fired.

And I have a "source" that says Les Miles hand picked Steele strictly because of his SEC ties, choosing him over Aranda, who was a close second choice.

That's putting it mildly.

Aranda interviewed for the job last year and we chose Steele. But we obviously kept our #2 choice on the line. In retrospect, maybe he should have been #1.

I'm not sure if this has been in the making since Les' close call or if it was a quick response to Steele's departure (in other words, did Steele leave or was he asked to leave?). I doubt we'll ever know for sure.
