changing the offense for basically one play?

the run-pass option. I remember Lord Saban complaining about the college rule allowing the Olineman to go 3 yards (?) downfield and still allow the qb to throw. this creates the advantage where lb's and safeties come up to stop the run and get exposed to getting burned on the pass. if they don't, of course there is more running room.
I like the offense we were running - the west coast for the last 7 games. and of course we have the packages to put in more receivers and fewer backs if we wish.
but pocket passers can't run that run-pass option play.
is this what it's all about? and does ed really want to make wholesale changes or just add this wrinkle?
I wish someone would ask.

It goes back to that same comment Saban has made and it will likely impact a lot of coaching philosophies for years to come:
"Why? Because we all want to win, right? And we can, right? And if you're not, someone else is," he says. "Like I said, if you're not willing to evolve and you get comfortable in what you're doing then you get passed by."

The way the RPO works is it gives you an advantage over the defense. Until the rules change or the defenses change to reduce or remove this advantage, you take advantage of its impact.

I don't disagree but just like the wish bone, it will ruin college football for a while. back when Nebraska, Tejas and Bama were winning everything it really made college football boring.

Hopefully not, hopefully enough people adopt it quickly enough that it is either:
A.) The new standard / what is expected of teams
B.) Rules change to make it more fair
C.) Defense adjusts
Don't think RPO is the death of college football.

you don't think some pocket passers can roll out? or do a QB draw? both of those can be considered Run-pass options if you are looking to throw first then tuck it and run.
I'd prefer we run some spread option/ power spread/power read along with more zone read option as well with a mobile QB.

not bill walsh's version but LSU lite's. I've heard others describe it that way and I agree. Just means that there are 6 offensive players who can touch the ball and you use all of them, instead of just 4.

Yea that is the West coast offense. Any version of a pro style offense with the short route combos with heavy zone blocking and power run plays is considered West coast style offense

The use of the tight ends ,backs in passing game, and play action ,also make it a West coast style especially with combined with the things I wrote in post above

West coast offense it wasn't. More like a west coast semi-hybrid.

Not to the fans of those teams.
