Trying to piece this together - so Shep moves in with his girlfriend (a student) who happens to work for LSU Football. Maybe a grey area, but still a stretch imo. But the reason they are suspending him is for talking to a teammate about the situation before the teammate was interviewed by the NCAA? Is this accurate? Seems rather minor - hopefully no more than 1 or 2 games suspension

I think it has to do with rent. He has a stipend, and I don't think he was paying an equal # of the rent. Its like an extra benefit-type thing.

What happened in the DEZ BRYANT situation? Conferring with the teammate would be considered tampering and a big deal.

Idk but all this shite just sounds like a weak reason to suspend someone.

If the determine he was trying to influence the team mate's testimony then it would be an ethical issues which can be ignored if it was made public without action.

Damn - these poor players each need a lawyer to follow them around 24/7 to interpret the NCAA rules and regs.

Of course they would all need to pay the lawyers for their services so it would not be construed as an extra benefit.

But Cecil Newton can shop his son around for $180,000 and nothing happens.

Unbelievable.

I hate the NCAA.

I hate ESPN too. Just saying.

I am willing to bet he is done for the season. I think it is similar to Dez Bryant in that it is not so much the action itself as the cover-up.

What is amazing is Cam Newton's father can admit to shopping his son, can admit to lying about it and there may have been evidence of pay for play and he is cleared in 18 hours.

So I guess Darren Thomas is in compliance. Or is it that Chip Kelly doesn't give a crap?

The Newton's were investigated for months and the investigation may still turn something up, even years later. No money exchanged hands, etc. dude! "18 hrs"...what a joke!

Also, Jefferson will be suspended for the season. Just a matter of time now!

he didn't say anything about money changing hands, he did however solicit money which is against the NCAA rules if you go by the previous example set in the reggie bush case.

but the NCAA did not want to suspend their star before the season and possibly hurt ratings, so they found a loophole.

whereas reggie was gone, so they didn't care.

You really believe that? I've got some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you then.

Bush was given rent, his family received benefits, there was "institutional lack of control" at USC, with a head coach bailing, etc." Cecil made some comments, but I saw no evidence he actually solicited...he just ran his mouth some. CM didn't even have a car at Auburn.

Umm, not necessarily. Dez Bryant was asked a number of questions by NCAA investigators regarding his interaction with both Deion Sanders and Sander's agent(s). Dez lied to NCAA. NCAA busted Dez Bryant.

Shep apparently talked to another team mate about on-going investigation. That is a violation to divulge anything about the investigation.

Hopefully, Shep was honest to compliance officers when asked what he said to the team mate, and NCAA has mercy on him. If he lied and said, "No, I didn't do it" and NCAA determines that he did do it... Shep is toast.
