LSU Evaluating JUCO QB's
"It depends on where there maturity is," Miles said. "If you have a JUCO guy who has run the show and understands the passing game and can really throw it and will understand what we ask of him, that’s a guy we would consider. Ideally, that guy would have to be here in the spring to fully comprehend what we would ask him to do at quarterback."
Hayden Rettig Interview
"But overall, Rettig's experience at LSU was not what he expected. Shortly after he arrived, offensive coordinator Greg Studrawa was demoted to offensive line coach and Cam Cameron took over as the play-caller. Cameron's offense calls for a mobile quarterback, which doesn't mesh with the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Rettig's skill set."

You want a Mobile QB
so that still calls for someone who can throw.

I'm curious how Rettig does at his new school. What is it, Rutgers?
Sometimes guys just aren't as good as we thought. That lies with talent evaluation being wrong.

So Kelly and Fitz are mobile?

And this isn't hard to understand, they want a mobile QB that can still throw it. Those are everywhere. Brandon Harris is a great example, he's just a true freshmen that obviously hasn't grasped the offense yet.

Les doesn't know much about QB's we haven't had one since Flynn!

"It was a good experience," Rettig said. "I learned a lot. It's always good going to a program and learning so much. When I first got there, I had no idea how to take a snap under center. I was just strictly a shotgun guy out of high school and we threw the ball like 50 times a game. So coming into a place like that, understanding where you actually have to minimize mistakes and take what the game gives you every down, it was more that type of thing."
"The system wasn't a fit," Rettig said. "The guy who recruited me there got fired from his position and it just wasn't feeling like home. It just changed in such a dramatic way where it just wasn't where I needed to be at the time. I needed to find myself and figure out what I wanted to do."

Why? So we can wind up in Shreveport waiting to hopefully develop one when we could be wining with a drop back passer instead?

Yes a mobile QB Sammy, but don't you think a Pro style QB who can run fits this offense better? I dunno, I'm not that educated about these things, but it looks like a pro style offense to me.
Anthony Jennings doesn't seem to fit that offense. I know Chad Kelly could be trouble for us, but I watched about 40 minutes of his Juco Highlights yesterday, and it looks to me like he has All of the tools for this offense.
Oh except for not taking 1 snap under center, I may have completely missed with this post, oh well.

it's pathetic.
The man just makes shite up.
The program is rudderless.

Brandon Harris fits this offense perfectly. Come Spring, he needs to do whatever Les and Cam requires of him so he can get on the field.

I agree, but all we have to back him up is Anthony Jennings, do you want Jennings coming in cold off the bench in high pressure situations, against SEC teams? The dude can't get it done when he is warmed up.

What I'm confused about is that we shifted directions on Rettig for AJ/BH (which is fine) but why would we turn right-around and consider another pro-style QB (Fitzwater - apparently Kelly can run some).

"I am not ready to necessarily envision a JUCO quarterback this minute, but we are looking for the best available, and we are looking at some JUCO guys including quarterbacks," Miles said. "But, I’m not wildly motivated to have one."
Doesn't sound like we are really considering them.

When they say they're looking for a mobile QB, I don't think they necessarily mean a running QB. It could be they want a guy who can simply use his feet to move around in the pocket and not be a statue. Aaron Rodgers is a mobile QB.

The rest of Shea's article seems to indicate that "we are looking at some JUCO guys including quarterbacks" of which two are Kelly & Fitz.

We need more depth at the position.

Yeah, he probably can't do anything in this situation. Would be worse if a drive started at the LSU 1 yard line.

Then why the hell did we recruit him in the first place, if we knew that his skill set didn't match the type of offense we want to run? Were we hoping to make him conform to our scheme rather than tailor the scheme to fit his strengths? I just don't understand our approach to recruiting QBs. It seems like we don't know what the hell we want. We sure as hell aren't running a spread offense, so why do we need a running QB?
