Pretty sure yes. Medical red shirt. If he has played less than 30% of the games which I believe he has he can medical red shirt.

That was already confirmed from LSU that he is available to redshirt this season because by the end of the season he won't have played in more than 30% of LSU plays.

The rule is that you can't participate in more than 30% of the total games (in football this is generally rounded up to 4 games) during the first half of the season. If he participates in one play, say in game 10, he can't get the redshirt.
