Can Lange do it? Will Mainieri let him?

From the Advocate this morning: “I told Alex Lange I’m going to give him the ball tomorrow (and) just give it back to me when the game’s over,” coach Mainieri.

I think if we take an early lead and the pitch count stays reasonable then he might let him go the distance. BUT, I've seen Mainieri replace him after he struck three out in the top of the eighth.

Honestly, we don't have much pitching left, he needs to go for most of the game. I'm hoping for 8 innings.

It's just hard with him because he's such a strikeout pitcher he throws more pitches than other guys.

We will be fine if he can give us 7. I'm hoping for 8 though. I really don't wanna have to throw stallings back out there in a close game.

I will lose it if he's throwing a gem like Poche yesterday through 8 to pull him for Stallings or anyone else in the 9th with a 1 run lead.

I don't think PM would do that tonight. Especially if he is quoted as saying he wants Lange to go the distance.

I've never liked that and prefer to let the guy who's in a groove go out there and pitch to at least the first batter and see how it goes.

With how much of our bullpen we went through last night, the longer Lange can go, the better. Hopefully we can give him better run support than we gave Poche.

He has let Lange go well over 100 pitches before... The problem is Lange runs up some counts pretty often. If Bama swings at some first pitch strikes, he could come close.

Threw 116 last week. I don't think it'd be smart to let him go past 110 this week. Hopefully thats enough.

We have all said Poche shouldn't go more than 80-90 pitches. It was a good pull last night IMO.

Well yeah. Circumstances are different now than last night. I had no issue with going to Stallings in the 9th last night.

Yep, I was fine with pulling Poche at that point, we saw what happens when he's left in too long against UK. It was on Stallings (and a number of other relievers) for not sealing the deal.

The consensus in the game thread was putting in Stallings was the correct decision. Of course since it didn't work out, the arm chair coaches come out and bitch.
