Cam said this last year. Maybe they think implementing a zone read package that became prominent about 10 years ago is on "the cutting edge"? Thoughts?

I think any offense if you don't execute it looks like shite.

And that is what we have.

People need to get angry at the right things.

Jennings wouldn't look good in any offense.

We can blame the staff for letting the QB situation get to what it is, but it isn't a scheme issue.

I'm just saying it's an illustration of how delusional and backwards are coaches can be. It's alarming. We have a system that can be executed at a competent level but you need a veeery good Qb and skill position players. shite I mean look at how much talent we had last year. The scheme isn't good enough to make up for player deficiencies. That's just a sign of poor coaching.

Completely agree. We've seen our scheme work time and time again when executed properly by capable players. Execution and QB development are the problem, both of which can be fixed.

cutting edge of offense

I've haven't seen that. 1) Makes me think of Lou Tepper and his gimmicky crap defense. 2) Les needs to get back to the drawing board. The players aren't catching on to his cutting edge offense.

When Tooter's trip finally became a catastrophe, he always called out the same thing, the famous,"Help, Mr. Wizard!" and Mr. Wizard would rescue Tooter Turtle with the incantation, "Drizzle, drazzle, druzzle, drome, time for this one to come home." Then, Mr. Wizard would always give Tooter the same advice: "Be what you is and not what you is not. Folks that is what they is, is the happiest lot."

Should the offense get more vanilla since our players cannot grasp this cutting edge offense?

I think Les may have cut himself with it.

It has to be the blocking scheme. What I see is what you see, vanilla, and often without a hole for the running back.

One may deduce the "cutting edge" is consistently fielding an offense with below average (to put it mildly) QB play and changing nothing. We're so cutting edge we'll try to win with a terrible QB they'll never know what hit them!!

He also said that the TEs would be a critical part of the passing game this year:

quote:

Q: How important will it be that you work the ball to the fullbacks and tight ends in the passing game this season?

A: It’s critical. We want every guy on our offense involved in both phases of our game, run and pass. And at any point in time, if a defense knows you’re not going to throw the ball to a guy, then I think you make it tough on yourself. But Connor Neighbors is as good a receiving fullback as I’ve been around. Melvin Jones is going to be outstanding. All our tight ends, I just mentioned all of them, even J.D. Moore came in and made a big play at the end, so we’ve got great depth at tight end, we’ve got two really outstanding fullbacks and we’re going to need them this season.

Q: How much did you have to tinker with the scheme to work the ball to the tight ends?

A: Our system is what it is. It’s a route tree that allows tight ends to do what they do best. We didn’t feature it last year for obvious reasons, knowing the talent at outside, and then we would move Jarvis [Landry] and Odell [Beckham] down inside almost in a tight end-type role. But this year is different. Every year with different personnel creates a whole new set of opportunities and I think the opportunities for our tight ends are going to be critical. I was thrilled -- for the most part I thought they made the most of it.

You're right, we should implement a more basic offense. Something like simple toss dives and one or two receiver patterns. K.I.S.S.......
