I’ve said this the whole year. I got more down votes than a Gump troll.

With all the young linebackers coming in, a secondary with its two safeties as Perkins ans Gilbert sounds like a way better unit.

That would include me and all of the LSU coaches.

Perkins is a great talent who should be used in various positions. You should build your defense around him - hiding him from the offense so they can’t key on him. Sometimes the QB is keying on the safety and you could blitz that safety and have Perkins roll back into that safety position thus foiling the read. There are myriad things you can do with Perkins to fool the offense, switch packages without having to change personnel, and get Perkins hawking the ball.

In House's scheme I would say that is probably the best description of his role. In Aranda's system, he would've likely been playing the Patrick Queen role. I'm not versed enough to know what Aranda termed that position, but to me it would be described as your "best cover linebacker". In an unrelated note, I could've seen Aranda moving Jacoby Stevens to that role in 2020 had he stayed.

Wouldn't be worse than Major Burns in coverage.

Blake Baker does utilize a star position that’s a safety/linebacker hybrid in his 4-2/3-3-5 defense. I think that’s where Perkins ends up in the scheme. Go watch #13 for Missouri this year. Made a ton of plays from that position both in the backfield and the middle of the field

In the box safety is his best role. The one massive problem is the 4-6 defense isnt great agaisnt the air it out offenses we see now in college football.

He’d be Laron Landry 2.0 if he played safety

HE played nickel safety most of this season already. HE was much better in first season closer to ball every snap, more impactful player.

First person who came to mind after watching him play was Ed Reed.

Always felt he was a safety but the rant would yell at me so I was scared to mention it.
