Although he has had struggles with his command in the past there's no denying the dude has got a live arm. After that leadoff double that cleared the bases he pretty much shut them down.

If he continues to improve his command I think he might be able to step into the Caleb Gilbert mid relief role next year assuming Caleb is in starting rotation.

Starters - Hess, Walker, Gilbert
Mid relief - Bush, Bain
Closer - ??

Somebody else has to emerge. Maybe an unexpected Freshman.

Stortz (probably misspelled) maybe? Throws mid 90s, can come in late to seal a game after playing 1st and dropping bombs all game

Heck maybe Bush can close some next year if Hess is starter.

He's got good enough stuff, just needs to improve his control.

Look for Storz and another freshman or two to contribute. There's always at least one frosh, that hardly anyone expects to do anything, that ends up contributing a lot of innings.

I don't think anything can be assumed for next year as of right now.

A lot depends on the severity of Walker's injury.

Bush was good last night after he settled down. How many pitches did he throw? It sucks he's our only lefty reliever. May not need him tonight, but would be nice if he's available Wednesday(God willing) to come in late and face a left handed hitter or 2.

Hess will close. Hell, he could close for quite a few MLB teams now. You don't move that kid, sorry.

Ehh... I don't think it's that far fetched to think Hess could be our Friday guy.. If he has the stamina to sit 94-95 for 6-7 innings and throw strikes, he will be..

No he won't. Also did you miss the part where Eric has a serious elbow injury?

ETA: I have zero evidence of any injury. I'm an idiot for typing that. Downvoting myself.

He may be a closer in the pros l, but he will be a starter next year. The only reason he's in the pen now is because we needed relief pitchers.

I agree personally. Hess would be best closer in the country hands down! I think he wants to be a starter however, but we'll see how it pans out next fall.

Hopefully we get 2-3 awesome freshman that can step in.

Dude, you clearly don't know shite about baseball. I'm fine with bandwagon fans but don't act like you have any knowledge of the game. Hess and walker were battling for the Sunday job and Hess was a midweek starter. He's going to be a starter next year. Garun fuching teed.

You're right, I don't know for sure yet and shouldn't have said that but we do know he has an elbow issue that requires an MRI and it's bad enough that they're not even considering bringing him in, in relief.

I'm not confident that Walker pitches next year. Taking himself out after a pitch seemed suspicious. If it's just a tight forearm, I would have expected him to try and finish the inning. Normally when guys instantly shut it down after a pitch, it's because there was a pop or serious issue. Fingers crossed though
