I may be crazy, but I actually Love this idea. If only it could have been done at the start of the season though. In reality, it would be tough to implement this late.

Is Lou Tepper still working? The drop linebacker may be the missing piece of this defense. He'd have it installed by the time Miles is ready to retire.
It only takes 5 years in his system for players to completely understand it.

You can install zone defense/box & 1/ triangle & 2, in an afternoon . It's simple.

Sometimes it would be a triangle and two and other times it would be a diamond and one.
Dale was a truly a unique and complex character. He would say he was not concerned about what others thought of him but in true fact he was always very concerned and in tune with perceptions of himself and his program obsessively.
He once instructed his players that if the press asked about the freak defense that they tell them they didn't really know what to do when it was called for they just played as hard as they could and hustled and hoped it worked out.
So they did tell the press that, and the press ran it. However, on his coaches show just days after that he allowed them to record him telling his players just what he had told them to tell the press.
So he wanted to give the impression he did not care, but then showed otherwise by exposing the ruse.

Tough to implement a triangle and two or box and one??? Are you serious???
I taught my 11 year old daughter's church league team how to run a box and one in an hour. Every high school player is familiar with this defense. They can implement it immediately.
It ain't rocket science, folks.
