Over and over? Day after day? Play after play? A constant stream of the same tired rhetoric. Written by the same people who even you must admit have at best superficial knowledge of the situation. You say you want dialogue? Why is support rarely included?

You are delusional if you think it's that bad. But I understand the exaggeration. Do I think ignorant people say ignorant things? You cant post here for 15 minutes without realizing that. I've said multiple times PM had his best year coaching last year since '09. Doesn't mean I don't come here to vent when things go wrong like many others, and it's not always just towards him. And it's not always Monday morning quarterbacking.

And absolutely you can defend him. And we can discuss his decisions. But I'm going to ask a little more from someone I'm disagreeing with than hiding behind "well, he's the coach and he knows best" just like I'd laugh at anyone trying to say "he's just terrible" and then can't back it up. What I'm talking about is looking at a play or move and maybe disagreeing because the percentages work well against the move PM made or the personnel seems really off. A popular example is putting in Deichmann his freshman year in a game winning situation vs Kentucky. I was there and everyone was pulling their hair out wondering why he wasn't bunting or another player wasn't in to bunt. At the time he was 0-10 batting on the year. Did PM think Deichmann would get a hit? Of Course! His move says as much. That doesn't mean we can't scratch our heads over it and get frustrated over the move only made more controversial after his press conference stating that Deichmann had never bunted in his life. Which we know isn't true.

But putting this back on topic. I haven't said anything against him in this thread. I don't agree with his stance necessarily and you should know why. And there are other coaches, really good ones, who allow certain players to pitch and play the field. At the LSU level they are rare but they exist. And there's nothing "wrong" with disallowing it either. It's a preference.

Everything you say is true.

And with that as a given, every coaching job should be a lifetime job.

Think about that for just a second.

I mean, really, they are with these kids more than their families. There can be no room to second guess their use of personnel. LOL

FTR, I have questioned some obvious choice of pitching in critical situations, not even knowing who made the decision. But, I have been satisfied w CPM handling of the program, and highly impressed w everything he does off the field as an ambassador of LSU.

I'd argue the job he did last year was better. 2009 returned basically the entire team and was an absolutely loaded lineup. Last year he replaced basically the entire starting lineup and earned a national seed. The 2009 team was expected to make a championship run. Last year had maybe the lowest expectations we'd had since his first year as coach

'11 was pretty low.

'09 was much more than the Nola move though. It gets all the love but Chad Jones started the year as our DH. And I'd argue it wasn't nearly his most loaded team.

Skip didn't allow this either. Only one that comes to mind is Adrian Antonini, but he was a catcher first then a pitcher. He didn't play both within the same season. And honestly you see less and less of that in college baseball in general now. Back in the day you had guys like Wilkerson and Hudson doing it all the time

I still wouldn't say it's a total rarity. There are multiple SEC teams that have had two-way players recently. Just not something you typically see with top programs.

Office topic: Vandy just lost. Moved their game to today due to impending weather.

2009 had Schimpf, Ranaudo, Coleman, Mahtook, and LeMahieu who all have been in the majors, Blake Dean who was one of the best players we've had in the program, 1st round draft pick Jared Mitchell, Ochinko and Gibbs who played AAA ball. And that doesn't even include guys like Marty Ott, Chad Jones, Leon Landry and Austin Nola. I mean I can't think of a more stacked team he's had top to bottom and the amount of experience that team had was unreal. All we lost from the 2008 team was Hollander, Jared Bradford and Matt Clark

2 pitchers and 3 hitters. 2013 is already really close and we aren't that far removed. There are a few players from that team still on this one.

My son threw two no hitters in HS, one in the playoffs, and he was never going to be a college pitcher.

Blake Dean was a great HS pitcher, but after an arm injury played OF and 1B. Also, Ryan Eades, a former LSU pitcher, was a great hitter in HS, but was never allowed to bat during games after almost suffering a major injury during a scrimmage. There may be things we don't know that is not released.

I still would have liked to see Joe Broussard get at bats. Dude could mash.

I like seeing guys contribute as two way players. But it's something Mainieri prefers not to do really.
