LSU is not niw nor ever has been a basketball school. We hsve had our moments but some of you who want to fire Johnny Jones act as if we are going to have a lpng line of quality coaches just begging to come to LSU to coach basketball. It will not happen.

I am not supporting Johnny Jones or against him being fired but realisticly speaking LSU is going to have to pick an up and coming coach and get lucky because basketball is not loved like football and I think baseball is a bigger priority to most LSU fans than basketball.

STFU. Louisiana has ALWAYS been a basketball state. And hence LSU used to be a basketball school.

It doesn't have to be a basketball school to be somewhat competitive and put a good product on the court.

LSU may not be a basketball school but the team should be much better than what was on the floor tonight.

In the sense that basketball will never surpass football as the most important sport, you are right. But, LSU has had a consistently good basketball program for a sustained period in the past. For a good 15 years under Dale Brown, LSU was a consistent contender for the SEC title and a near-perennial NCAA tournament team. A 4-12 or comparable season in SEC play simply did not happen, even in our down years.

It might not. In fact, given current management, it probably won't. But it could. All it would take is a half-arse decent commitment to the program, the courage to operate in the best interests of the program instead of just letting an aging former coach and alumnus treat it as their own personal fiefdom and a willingness to invest the necessary money to hire a good coach.

LSU is going to have to pick an up and coming coach

Yes, that would be a good start. We could at least try to do that, but we don't. No way in hell was Johnny Jones an "up and coming" coach. He was Dale Brown's and Collis Temple's crony, and that was the only qualification he needed.

baseball is a bigger priority to most LSU fans than basketball.

And that happened because a smart AD hired a great baseball coach. The same thing could happen in basketball just as easily, if we would only hire a smart AD and let him do his job.

Tell that to Rudy Macklin, Dwayne Scales, Ethan Martin, Greg Cook, Willie Sims, Jordy Hultberg, Chris Jackson, Howard Carter, Leonard Mitchell, Ricky Blanton, Don Redden and Shaquille O'Neal. (Among others)

Ever went to a game in the AC back in the late 70's/80's when the place was Rockin? Going to an LSU Basketball game was just as much a "Big Event" as LSU football.

LSU was a Football and Basketball school back then.

It can be done again with the "Right" HC in place and a commitment from the University and Athletic Department!.....................

I am 47, and I promise you from 1979 thru 1992 if a poll was taken of coaches at the time, we were one of the top 10 programs, yes top 10 in the country. With our resources and surrounding talent, we can get there again with proper leadership.

The only aspect that I would agree with, is that the LSU boosters and administration has never pushed for LSU to BE a high profile basketball program.

Dale Brown (Colilis Temple Jr., et al) did this on their own. It was working well, in the 80's and early 90's --- but the exterior "powers that be" never spent $$$$ to make sure it went to the next level (ala, similar to McClendon era to the Saban era in football).

LSU was turning a profit in basketball, and recruiting very well in Brown's tenure - but $$$$ was never spent to upgrade facilities, staff, etc.

LSU fans have PROVEN they'll support a winner. If you don't believe that, you don't know how hard it was to get tickets during Chris Jackson, Shaquille O'neal's time

LSU needs to hire a very strong, focused AD first. Hire a smart, aggressive and proven winning HC, then spend $$$$ to upgrade the PMAC. They've done well spending on the basketball training center, but the PMAC needs to be re-built in my opinion.

Then, top talent will be attracted to play at LSU.....including top talent in La --- who leave the state

We had a good run with Brown, but keep in mind that it was Brown, Jones, and Abernathy who got us into a shite load of trouble with the NCAA. If Brown had not called them a bunch of "Gestapo Bastards" in a Sport Illustrated interview, we might have not got hit as hard. Then there was the deal with Brown being found recruiting down in south Mississippi with an attaché case containing $10,000 case. The lame assed excuse given by Brown was that Abernathy paid all of his bills in cash. Yeah, like we all carry cases loaded with $10,000 to pay our bills ....

I remember brother. I am just one year younger than you. Final Four appearances then Shaq and Jackson in late 80's/early 90's. LSU can be great again in B Ball with the right decision makers in place.

I remember all of the glory days of Dale Brown but I am telling you all that LSU as a school NEVER backed basketball to a grwat extent. I am 60 years old and I recall it all because I was there. LSU is not a basketball because it chooses not to be and the fans don't really give a damn. You are kidding yourselves if you believe otherwise.

If LSU gave a shite about basketball we wouldn't have had Johnny Jones to begin with or Brady, etc.

The point is that if you fire Johnny Jones then who do you think LSU is going to go get? LSU is NOT committed to being a power in basketball. I don't know what some of you refuse see.

Hello! Louisiana is in the deep south where football is king. Louisiana produces the most D-1 and NFL players per capita than any other state. Not the case with roundball or NBA players. Football is king, baseball, and then roundball. The way the game is played today who cares anyway.

Great times in the PMAC

While on campus people looked forward and were excited when basketball season was approaching back then.
