Harold Perkins should not be an inside linebacker

ETA: damn, looks like this board has flip flopped and is now Perkins being inside instead of outside.

He is gonna be perfect there. Burns has moved down into the box to play the new formed Star position. Burns will be basically the outside linebacker so he will motion out with RB or go into coverage. That helps Perkins stay closer in middle and also allows him to play off the edge when needed. IF it doesnt work out (I think it will), Perkins will just move into the Star and they will most likely bring Weeks in to complement Greg Penn. Excited to see what Blake Baker cooks up.

In one second of that clip he showed why the defense will be better and Perkins will shine. Perkins tried to avoid too many blacks last year by stepping out of his gap and into the direction the blocker intended to block him. Baker is actually teaching him how to remain in his gap and shed the blocker so he can be in position to make a play. He also showed how to read a tackle when you threaten him with the speed rush outside. Baker is detailed oriented guy, which is what this defense needed.

Yeah I loved that clip of Baker instantly getting on Perkins trying to jump the gap and avoid the lineman. You could see it made Perkins off balance and easy for lineman to just turn you or take you out of the play. Attacking the block and shedding is a basic technique but I'm not so sure what the previous staff was teaching. It's all back to the basics with this staff and will pay dividends imo.

It blows my mind people still think LSU can just do what they did his freshman year and get the same results.

If he can do that...GOAT!

Or he's riding the pine, either way.

He cannot be an edge rusher in the NFL at 220lbs, CBK has talked with him and his family and other pro players. He wants to play on Sundays, he’s a freak athlete and inside is where he’ll make his living.

I understand that Tyga, I feel the same but these coaches feel obligated to player and family about future. It’s a thin line balancing act of pressure, that’s why it’s so hard dealing with elite talent, each one I’m sure has to be dealt with differently.

Questions

Do you want Harold Perkins on the field as an every down player?

Do you want Harold Perkins to be able to rush the passer from anywhere?

Do you want Harold Perkins used as a spy at times?

House came from the NFL and may have been a good coach but he was not a teacher. He coached like he expected the players to know what to do without having to teach them what to do. BB is a teacher and the defense will be WAY BETTER.

I like to laugh a lot and when used right, " That's racist " makes me laugh big time.

Perkins by first game will be 100% better than his last game. He's the freak of freaks athletically, soon he'll be a technical freak.

He's a winner.
