So,
We'r eall in agreement that the best way to determine whether the newly hired coach is the correct hire is:
1. How he does in a press conference; and
2. Whether he 's a fan of the program?
What more is there?

JJ was about the last person I wanted LSU to hire. But the best coaches out there wouldn't come here. So instead of being pissed try to look at the bright side. JJ has an upside that is higher than just about anyone in the country. Meaning if he really has learned to coach we will have a good coach that recruits better than TJ did and isn't going to jump ship for any other job in the country.

Of course down side potential is far worse as well than any of the proven coaches. So lets hope that the 2 star of the coaching realm turns out to be a 5 star in reality.

I know this he is better than what we had before. Like I said anyone walking down the street would be better than TJ. So at least be happy that we have upgraded.

I was super impressed with the presser.

He is all in..

And because he is all in, I will be very much pulling for him to succeed and will be taking more of an interest in Tiger Basketball.

Yet another post where the complaint is that Jones is not a coach they wanted because of a mediocre record at a small school. But then at the same time they say anything is better than Trent and we can't do anything worse. Geez, Trent was a big hire. He was coach of the year in two conferences. He had been to the sweet 16, won conference championships, had a good won-loss record etc. A coach's past record does not guarantee continued success. What matters is the here and now and what are you going to do next season, next game. Give Jones a chance.

The thing I took from the press conference was his promise to play up tempo ball and score a lot. Yeah!!! So tired of walking the ball up the court. If we can just get some of those athletic wings to sign we could be great. Hickey flying up the court with Hammink, Coleman and Turner. Oh Yeah!

I stand by my statement. TJ has done absolutely nothing from a coaching perspective since he has been at LSU. He hasn't recruited worth a crap. Can anyone argue that point? I was giving him a pass on recruiting at first in the hopes that we would improve and then use those saved scholarships to bring in better guys when they saw we were on the way up and willing to come to LSU. But this season he had a grand total of one commit!

You can't win without players and for some reason TJ didn't mind having a team without many players. What they heck would this team look like next year if Morgan decommits, gets hurt or flunks out/gets arrested or something? LSU be worse than some of the high school teams. Not exceptable.

Bad decision. Someone should have seen that was a red flag.

the reason we got JOB is because brent scott pursued him hard for 2 years. He stayed on JOB the whole time. i dont know why trent did not go out and recruit more. I never understood it. Maybe he got players at stanford and nevada without having to go on the road much. Maybe his assistants did most of the recruting.

whats puzzling to me tho is that he was in spain talking to geert hammink about Shane just a few days before he took the TCU job. Clearly he was recruting for LSU and not TCU. At the press conf today Johnny said Trent mentioned the TCU job at the final 4 right after Trent got back from spain. If he knew he was leaving for TCU why did he go all the way to Spain to talk to Geert and Shane ? Sounds like he was trying to leave LSU in as good a shape as possible. I know they were pursuing coleman hard. Its just all very puzzling to me.

you work for the guy who is cutting you a paycheck until the minute you leave, anything can happen and the gig you think you're getting could fall apart. these guys are pros, not your average pissed off sales flunky who can't wait to get the hell out and spends most of his days trashing the company to anyone who'll listen.

I was one of the fans that wanted Dixon, Smart, Pastner, etc.. and was saying lets throw 2.2 mil a year and get one of these guys. Maybe we couldve got one of those guys but they wouldve been here for financial reasons. Jones is at LSU because he wants to be, he is a true Tiger and if you couldnt see that from his genuine enthusiam on that podium youre blind. Im stoked about the future of the basketball program and I have no doubt Coach Jones will do everything in his power to turn this program around and get it back to what it should be.

I totally agree. I feel the same exact way. Jones will pour his soul into this program.

He could have played elsewhere and chose LSU,
...I see it as his like for LSU... not his hate for Denton.
