Hands down, Billy Cannon. Best college player I have ever seen. Played both ways & was a beast!

PP7 is great athelete but Cannon meant more to the program. He played both offense and defense. His defensive goal line stop was just as important as his run. Cannon was instrumental in winning the national championship and has our only hiesman trophy.
It's almost impossible to judge players from such different era's. PP7 was on a team with many freak players. This is really compairing apples with oranges. A more equitable question would be PP7 or Morris Clayborne?

Billy C, hands down. Not only owned the football field, but the track as well. Look also at how well held up in the pro's. Did very well for many years.
Every one else is a distant second.
Oh, and he was my dentist as well. The one thing I remember most is his "furry' fingers

When you use the term "freak athlete," I tend to think of measureables. The freak may not be the best player but that is another question. So, having operationally defined the term, you can disagree with my definition, but at least you will know where I am coming from.
Former Tiger DE/TE Kenny Davidson was clearly a freak. He destroyed the workouts and ended up getting picked rather high by the Dolphins even though he scarcely started at LSU. Definitely a freak. Glenn Dorsey was a hell of a player but not a freak at all in that his workouts were not all that great, at least compared to other top prospects.
In response to this comment on Cannon:
"not only that, but there isn't objective data to even judge him against his own competition, let alone competition from today."
I have to disagree with this because even in the absence of combine/workout stats, Cannon's track and field experience easily qualified him as a true athletic freak. SEC 100 yard dash AND shotput champion. Both his speed and explosive strength were just shy of WORLD class and his primary sport was football. No real question as to Cannon's freakishness.
Cassanova is a tougher call because I am not aware of having the measureables to judge whether he was or wasnt't. He is perhaps the greatest football player in LSU history (3 time AA) and he was very successful in the pros (I think he made something like 6 Pro Bowls in only 7 or 8 years), but I don't what his 40 time was, etc.
PP7 was definitely a freak with his combo of size and speed.
Two QB freaks in terms of arm talent were clearly Jamarcus Russell and Bert Jones. I realize that arm talent is more subjective to evaluate, but you're talking about two of the strongest arms anyone has ever seen.

Shaq wins with Billy Cannon a distant second.

you have to put Eric Hill and Erik Andolsek on this list....dude's were 2 of the most badass players in LSU football histoy! Andolsek owned every record in the weightroom at one time and I really can't remember another LSU O-linemen that straight up dominated like he did! Hill would would knock the piss out of you and struck fear in opposing offenses!!

Neither Claiborne nor Clayton come within a mile of being mentioned. They were both great players, but not freakishly talented.
Canon, PP7, Tommy Casanova, and Michael Brooks are the ones who stand out in my mind.

Johnny Robinson and Tommy Casonova are two former Tigers in that mode as well. Too early to consider recent players.
