Tennessee is very easily the best team in the conference. If anything we’re the main threat
To them

Tennessee is overrated and their core players can’t score. Ponds, Faulkner and Vescovi don’t command attention and their higher ceiling guys are youngsters who aren’t going to carry a Conf title team. We’re already seeing their lack of offense play out, only 3 80+ point games all against terrible teams and Alabama handling them with relative ease. They’re currently 4th in the SEC and I’m not sure they’ll even challenge this year.

LSU has two blowout wins since he left and Will Wade even made an addition by subtraction comment. I don’t know the situation but seems like the locker room issues being cleared up may outweigh what he was going to give LSU in the court.

I think the opposite. I'm not saying that the SEC has any contenders for the national championship, but we've got some pretty good coaches and players.

There's a lot of parity. Some of the lesser teams have the capacity to beat some of the better teams.

right now Alabama is probably the most complete team.

I'd probably say balanced more than complete. That said, they just lost one starter (Bruner) for 4-6 weeks and Herb Jones is day-to-day with a hand injury. If you look at the advanced stats Bruner was their most efficient player (similar to Days for LSU). And Jones is a tremendous defender. It will be interesting to see how and if they can adapt to those loses.

Kenpom has Tennessee as a top 10 team. They are a tremendous defensive team which is why they are 9-1. BUT, if you want to see a potential chink in the armor look at their games vs. Alabama (their only loss) and Arkansas (5 point win that was a 1 point game with 20 seconds to play). Both Alabama and Arkansas like to play fast and are good offensive teams. Tennessee wants to suffocate you in a half-court slugfest. So it may not be a coincidence that the two teams that made them get out and run a bit had success against them.

LSU doesn't play quite as fast as Alabama and Arkansas, but they are just fine making it a fast paced, full court game. The early returns say if you are a good offensive team who will get out and run then you can matchup well with Tennessee.

One thing that worries me about Tennessee is the way we've guarded the 3 point line in the past and how Vescovi can heat up from back there.

By no means am I saying the whole match up hinges on stopping him or that he's the key player. But he can get hot from 3 and do damage.

Tennessee the obvious top pick here.
Alabama the current hot name, but a big injury hit them this past week ... let's see how they look going forward.
Kentucky could still reel off a string of Ws to get back in the conversation, but this just looks like it's not their year.
Florida is always banging around at the top, but I also feel like this may not be their year.
Auburn with that freshman looks freaking legit. Keep an eye on them.
Super darkhorse candidate: South Carolina. They just haven't been able to get in very many games yet due to Covid, but they are just a few years removed from a Final Four run. We'll get a look at them without most of their coaching staff tomorrow.

True, but he is their ONLY threat from deep. After that, no one shoots better than 32% and/or takes 3's at all. I think even LSU's defense could lock in hard against him.

The only reason he lit up LSU last year was because it was literally his first game and there was no scouting report on him.

They are 1-4 with their only win coming against 0-4 UGA. Now, AU is playing better, but I don't think they are SEC champion good this season.

This is probably USC's best team (talent wise) since that Final Four team and Martin generally gets them to play well in SEC play. Unfortunately, they didn't have much of an Non-conf schedule to work out the kinks (they generally struggle in non-conf play) and I doubt even Martin really knows what he has on that team.

It sounds crazy to say, but if there is a "darkhorse" this year it is probably Kentucky.
