Benching starters late in games

Some of you don't understand a big reason to bench starters late in games. You don't just trot out the entire second team offense when the game is out of reach. You want backups to get experience with the starters. You want your backup QB to have experience playing with first team OL blocking and throwing to first team WRs. You want a backup OG to have a feel for playing between the starting C and OT. The other side of this is you want your starters to have experience playing with the backups.
It isn't nearly as beneficial to get a guy reps when he is doing it with guys he will likely not play in a real game with. Coaches will put two or three backups in at a time late in blowouts. This will leave 8-9 starters on the field.
Starters get hurt late in games, and just because the fans don't know what the coach is doing, doesn't mean the coach doesn't know what he is doing. You often times hear commentators say "they can rotate players freely without any dropoff", well this is a necessary step to reach that point.

What you say make sense. Actually our biggest loss on OL occurred in practice. This is the way things are, injuries are part of the game. and key injuries can mean the difference from winning and losing. It't unfortunate but you can't predict when or where. You just have to play the game and hope for the best.

I am a proponent of this philosophy generally.
Last nite, howerver, it became clear of first team Offense was not ready fro SEC play and needed work

Very good point. The starters are struggling big time. Do you take those guys out when in theory they are your best at the position? They are not looking good and need to be sharper than your 2nd string guys.

It is probably clear to the coaches who needs work and who can let backups get some pt.
