is the bad defense lack of fundamentals or lack of playing together as a team? of course,as I type this, I realize that fundamentally, playing as a team is fundamental.
But, you know what I mean, hopefully - these guys just haven't had time to cohese into a unit?
doesn't seem like they trust each other to do their job.

I think it's a combination of things. Learning to play with these new rules and not knowing rotations as well as they should or maybe something is flawed with teaching rotations. On the road is seems like the team gets really tentative on the defense side, whether that's because they are scared of fouling or unsure of their responsibilities, I don't know.

Definitely both of those plus they play with zero sense of urgency.
