You said there was still a big decline with the returning players, but it isn't far off at all from what they did last year.

And I've also stated that based on batting average alone, I can see how one thinks that things haven't declined that much, which is why I've pointed out other statistics such as our failing to score more than 5 runs in 56% of our games.

Look, I understand that you support Sanchez and think he's done a good job with the talent we have. I disagree to the extent of maximizing that talent. We've seen what Dunn has accomplished in terms of maximizing talent. I think it would be smart to hire someone of that caliber and pedigree as our hitting coach regardless of whether Sanchez has done a "good job" with the talent we have. Sometimes that isn't good enough and I don't understand accepting average results and statistics -- that we are trying to stretch and "pretty" up -- rather than redefining what is acceptable.

look at rhymes. he gets cut from lsu goes to cc and comes back hitting .500. he was well coached while gone. players should be getting better not staying the same or slipping. reminds me of crowton. i dont get how our football and baseball teams can be so similar. we need someone to develop our hitters. rhymes is proof what a good hitting coach can do. look at difference in pitchers with dunn. how anyone can think javi is insignificant is beyond me.

I don't know if the problem is talent or coaching. We use the same statistics as evidence for each. We do know that hitting has gotten worse because of the bats and that LSU is somewhere around 4th or 5th at BA in the SEC. However, they don't seem to hit for extra bases much and they can't run the bases. I can't fault the coaches for the base running because they've tried everything. I'm going with talent as the problem. Either way it's up to the coaches to correct.

Side note - I know a young man who pitched for the Tigers in the recent past. He said Katz told him the the SB ace's pitches were moving a tremendous amount yesterday. They just couldn't find them. I don't thing those hitting problems were due to LSU deficiencies, either talent or coaching, it was just great pitching!
