I love LSU and Baton Rouge. We have multitudes of problems but once you have lived here a few years the good seems to out weigh the bad. I moved here 31 years ago and bought a house and still live in that house. Most people only visit LSU for events or class. It is very soothing to just walk around campus early on a weekend morning visiting Mike and other sites. You can feel the stress and tension of the week melt away.

Just curious what people's thoughts on the city are. One of my favorite places to drive there is on highland road all the way through, some beautiful homes down there

It is the greatest city between New Orleans and Lafayette, no doubt.

I'm just a Miles fan.

Was a big Okie State fan then jumped on the LSU bandwagon. I'll follow him wherever.

Baton Rouge is a terrible city (traffic, crime, pollution are all rampant). The only good thing about Baton Rouge is LSU.

Edit: All the people downvoting are BR residents. I am providing an objective view.

I love LSU because it has the greatest and most patient fan base of any in modern day sports, along with the greatest coach to boot.

Baton Rouge is awesome, so long as you don't go past the safe zone.

Lived in br the majority of my life and honestly it's pretty terrible outside of lsu. Terrible traffic, public transportation, outdoor spaces, bike lanes and severely lacking entertainment options.

Seriously think about it. If someone from out of town was asking for suggestions for things to do what would you suggest? Go to the mall? Hang out at chain stores on siegen? Go to tigerland?

Downtown 3rd street is about the best option I guess but it still has a ways to go

Gonna jump in here with an outsiders view. I love it down there.

Great friend of mine lives over in the Old Jefferson area. Visit a few times a year and actually started coming down for work.

--Tsunami , best sushi in the world
--Love the drive down Highland
--Love the way they have improved the roads all the way back to Livingston parish. Much easier to get in and out on 12 now.
--Great weather
--Mike Anderson's seafood
--I Miss Bob Brunet's being in town
--Saw Styx at the River Center. Nice place
--Over in Old Jefferson/ Shenendoah, nice laid back, quiet lifestyle.
--We take road trips down to place like Delcombre, Abbeville and Lafayette every now and then to get some real Louisiana and it's not too far. Grosse Tate being about halfway I guess.
--Almost every time I go into the Bistro by the Mall of LA I see the infamous Jimmy Swaggart.
--Love to head out to New Roads and taking the ferry across the False River.

Great town. Like it better than NOLA and I like NOLA a lot..

BR is not near as bad as some make it out to be. It's not a "great" American city by any stretch but there is something for everybody. BR is what you make of it.

Well, there is smog, but you do know that pollution also comes in the form of people throwing trash on the ground, right?

I am from New Orleans so instinctively on the OT I have to always say

N.O. >>>>>>>> B.R.

The city where you attended college at will always be your second home though. I love B.R.

Grew up in Magnolia Woods, went to UHigh and matriculated across the street at Camp LSU to get my bachelor's. I bleed purple and gold.

BR was a great town of 50,000 to grow up in. I spent 18+ years around the campus and got the hell out of Dodge around the time David Duke almost became a US senator. I still love to visit, but I'm glad I left.
