What does everyone do when the 40K plus students return home for breaks, the summer, etc?

mostly wonder why they can't go away for longer.

this is my fifth year in gainesville, and i've dreaded pretty much every minute of it. payne's prairie is beautiful, but there's not much else you can't find at any other decent-sized college town.

he is right that satchel's is good, but it's not worth the 45-minute wait. and despite what residents here will tell you, there's not much else in the way of good food.

i passed through gainesville once and stayed a night but at least the area we were at was a dump. idn if it goes for the entire city, but i didnt care for it at all.

ill never forget eating at that waffle house... there was a fat ugly black lady working there that was talking to a fat ugly white lady about going snag a motel room to hook up after she finished her shift. they were talking about it out in the open and everyone could hear it. not only that but the lady was sitting down with her kid while talking about all of this. wtf? i know its a waffle house, but god damn that shite was gross.

gainesivlle has to have a better road system though right?

not really. the city just recently acquired software to sync the lights, although i haven't noticed any difference. some people here think the grid system is amazing, but there are too many exceptions to make it useful. however, the roads are not bad at all when school isn't in session, which is the main reason i enjoy those times.

you were probably staying on/near SW 13th St. that is one of the uglier parts of town, although they have been working to improve it. i ate many a meal at that waffle house around 2 in the morning before they closed it, and that type of conversation was not unusual.

So do I. Have lived in all three places. Prefer Lafayette over Baton Rouge minus LSU and lived just outside of Gainesville growing up and still visit at least once/year. If you like the outdoors - there is so much to do there. You're just an hour from either coast, lots of springs, rivers, for canoeing and diving, Ocala National Forest, beautiful horse farms in Ocala. The only thing I don't really care for about FL in general are the number of retirees. That being said, I'm grey headed myself. Guess I shouldn't complain.
