I know it's impossible for many to ignore the oxymoron that was the LSU basketball off-season.

To get a loaded recruiting class of ready-to-play guards and the best player while losing two NBA BIGS seems like quite a tease.

But it's not. We are sooooo much freaggin better it will be hard to believe.

1 college hoops totally belongs to guards

2 the biggest teams in the nation will be at an equal disadvantage when we have two guys handling the ball at 6'6" and 6'10" with the floor spaced out by lethal three-point shooters

3 there will never be an easier time to beat a talented Kentucky squad than when we have a uniquely talented LSU squad as opposed to simply being loaded everywhere.
For instance, having bigs means they get passes on the block, they clog up the lanes, and even worse it's in their hands at the end of games lol

4 every single LSU player will be getting in the mix. sharing the rock and running will trickle down from the top of the roster down when you have a best player like Ben.

5 Tim Quarterman will be one of the most revered LSU basketball players ever at season's end

hell, having two guards clicking is as dangerous as a loaded roster (see UCONN 2 years ago)

just sayin..... enjoy

this is the biggest thing. Our main 2 ball handlers are huge.

On top of those 2 guys you have our SG trio who all come in around 6'4. The key to this season is getting epps and Robison to contribute. Epps is a good shot blocker but that's about it. Elbert is a monster but that hurts him just as much if not more than it helps him. If those 2 can just defend and rebound we will be one helluva team.

robinson will have his moments. but having a big in the post area could just clog up the middle and make it harder for our guards to finish off drives.

epps, on the other hand could space it and that would really make a 4 guard system work.

years and years ago LSU got it handed it to them by a bad-arse Illinois team that entire roster was in the 6'6"range like kendall gill.

the most successful freshman in tourney history have been big dudes that can play the perimiter.

I don't see Robinson being the answer, but we do need someone to protect the rim and board. Fast breaks begin better with rebounds than pulling the ball out of the net. Unless he's improved his movement and footspeed I'm skeptical that he can be that person.

I think Epps can provide that balance we need. We'll see.

Eliminating the 5 second closely guarded rule will give even more power to guards this year. Players will be able to bring the ball up the court and won't have to pass it until someone is open. It should be interesting how this changes the game. Instead of trying to crowd the ball handler for a few seconds to force him to pass or make a move, there will probably be more zone defense played. One player will be able to control the ball for the entire possession, picking when to take his shot or waiting for a play to develop to pass the ball.

I didn't realize that 5 second closely guarded was taken out of the rule book. I will say it was a hard judgement call for refs, but I liked the rule. Oh well.

I agree. He creates his own spacing. Once you throw in the fact that we'll also have the best player in America playing with him, TQ will have field days driving the ball.

This team will commit a lot of turnovers in the beginning of the season. But, once they get going, they will not be stopped. The fast pace will be alarming at times, but it will be the success of this team.

How about Craig Victor? Why isn't he in the discussion?

Well, he won't be here until the spring semester, but I think some take for granted he's going to be that inside presence when he does start and others (myself included) aren't quite so sure.

It would be nice to have another step up and give us something as I don't think Victor is a guarantee. I think Epps is the best chance of that. He had some good minutes late in the SEC schedule last year and frankly I thought earned more PT than he got.
