I said it in other threads. Our best defenses had power up front and a defensive QB at safety. Hunt, Steltz, Taylor, Reid. It appears Loston is too busy trying to line up a highlight reel hit to line up the young DB's. On a couple of the scorchings I saw Mills looking around and throwing up his hands, wondering where in the Hell his safety help was. Collins continues to get burnt on the regular (not sure if fixable) and White got burnt a couple of times and just beat by great routes and passes from an unhurried senior QB (fixable). Maybe it's time to turn White and Mills loose on an island, and quit with the soft zone. That said, PP7 would get beat half the time if you let a QB like Murray stand back there with zero pressure. Someone observed yesterday that he wasn't even going to have to wash his jersey. We pressured him rarely, and hit him not a single time. The scouting report on him was he could be thrown off his game by pressure, we brought none. Maybe some younger guys need to be turned loose there too?

Not buying that all the way. D line has to win in the trenches for a defense to be effective. They could not win individual matchups no matter what the call on defense. None of them beat their man one on one which was shocking. Murray. Of have a cup of coffee and a donut back there. I expected Georgia to come out and play "inspired" at home, but at some point you have to overcome that if you want to win. Oh well it could be worse. We could have USC problems.

Exactly, it didn't matter who played the D tackles and ends were getting manhandled. They did play a little better in the second half that fumbled punt really hurt.

Not sure why Chavis loves that soft D. But, as bad as the DL is, you can't just leave DBs on an island while others blitz. They're just not getting to the QB. That hurts.

Yep, we are not 'DB U' this year...the DB's may get better by next year, but this year- No.

I can't believe how quick people turn on Chief. His defense has kept LSU relevant since 2009

Not one voice leading them. Too many Indians and not enough Chiefs. No pun intended.

so what can we attribute this to? youth?

I think so. Their too young to play as much zone as they do. We miss way too many assignments. We'd be better off rushing the QB and taking our chances on man coverage.

The thing I am seeing is lack of a vocal leader on defense. We have gotten spoiled over the last several years and this is a down year for our defense but I truly believe it is fixable. We need to take a deep breath and let Chavis fix this. We will be fine.

he proved himself the first 3 years and had a phenom like Tyran that gave you a turnover per game. Last year he allowed teams to score in their final drive 4 times 1 cost us a national championship 1 cost us bowl game.

Yesterday it cost us another shot at national title. Not saying fire Cahvis saying fire roey Raymond get an awesome db coach! Tell Chavis he has to make some changes

Isn't that the definition of insanity ? Keep doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.

One thing is Welter looks lost all the time. When your MLB tippy toes everywhere it pervades into the defense. He misses calls clearly and our rush defense is horrid.

DL rushing schemes are pathetic. Very few stunts or mixing it up. No creativity and UGA knew exactly where the pressure was coming from each play on zone blitzes. That's on Chavis.

DB coaching has been terrible the last two years. We have man cover DBs and we are playing zone coverage. It's stupid and reminiscent of the Saints defense last year.

It is largely scheme.

I realize they're going to get burnt every now and then. I'd rather them get burnt when the QB is pressured as opposed to having blown assignments over and over again with zero pressure on the QB.

We will get raped.

But, the consolation will be that our better athletes will more than likely be on the field when it happens.

i dont see why people keep blaming welter. he doesnt play corner or safety. he didnt give up 5 passing tds. Our defense sux, and the blame should go completely on chavis.
