Listening to the commentators, OSU is the most deadly team since the 1961 Yankees. With that said, the walks issued against them on Monday really were the major difference in the game, besides us not hitting.

I think it is essential to a Tiger victory if we throw strikes and let our defense work. If they base hit us all night, then they are the better team and deserve to win, but we can not give them the game by walking the lead off man and expecting good things to happen.

Thanks for the colorful insight.

Pretty simple recipe to winning ball games:
Throw strikes
Don't walk batters
Don't make errors

All you need is 1 run to beat a team. If you can't throw strikes and your fielding sucks, good luck trying to win.

Didn't seem quite so obvious to our coaches and players Monday.

Yeah, because they meant to walk batters and commit errors

It's possible to know what to do and not be able to execute.

I agree with you on the errors, but when it comes to walking batters, sometimes the pitchers are more interested in locating the ball to prevent hits which actually leads to walks. There is a different plan for pitching to batters who don't swing at bad pitches. That absolutely is the coaches responsibility.

Finally, another voice of reason!

Apparently OSU is a team that does not swing at bad pitches, or they didn't in the Monday game. Balls off the plate are just that, balls. Errors happen, but free bases lead to runs for this opponent.

So you think the coaches and players plan going into the OSU game was to walk 13 batters and make errors? It's very obvious, throw strikes not balls and make the plays and throws not errors. How much more obvious could it be? It's baseball. Sometimes things don't go your way. The other night was a prime example.

I mean, we started the game with our pitcher who doesn't walk people and he didn't walk anyone, then we used our pitcher who walks people sometimes and he only walked a couple, then we used pitchers who walk a bunch of people and they did so.

What I have seen from LSU pitching, during the CWS, is a general desire to make batters swing at balls.
Even Hess last night, who was dominant, threw lots of pitches six inches off the plate, on purpose.
Why do this, when you throwing absolute "cheese" and have one of the best defenses in the country?

Pound the zone!

Jesus some of you I swear....

Hess wasn't trying to throw balls dude he was missing his spot go look at where Pap was set up, right on the outside part of the plate not outside
