How much was he making at lsu? Rumor has it he was one of the lowest paid in the sec per a lsu 247 poster. If this is,true lsu needs to put more money on the support staff.

our entire recruiting budget is too low, imo.

according to USA today, latest LSU numbers show we spend $577,442 on recruiting. Alabama is close to a million.

Others of note:

AU 1.3 million
Arky 615,000
UGA 581,000
Tennessee 1.2 million
UF 687,000
Alabama 983,000

I remember a few years ago is was significantly lower than 577,000. I think in the 300s. At least our AD is pushing more money towards recruiting.

Where is old piss? Their budget has got to be well over 2 mil - I guess they don't list the $$$$ after the youngsters sign, if so, would be yuuge!

I'd rather put money into the coaching staff. That's just me, though.

So Auburn and Tennessee double LSU's recruiting budget? Seems like it should be the other way around considering the fact that LSU always has around a top 5 class.

If the staff has recruited this well with a 577k budget, my god what could they do with 1.3 mill?

Those schools spend more because they have to do a lot more recruiting out of state than LSU does. With all the talent we have in state there isn't a lot of need for us to leave the state to find quality recruits.

83,000
Compared to other sec teams, looks like MSU payed the most (163,000) with Auburn paying 125,000; Tennessee 121,000; Florida 103,000; Georgia 75,000. Other SEC teams were not listed.

This is relatively true. While Alabama and Tennessee's recruiting budget far overshadow ours, Alabama was paying nearly twice what we were per win, and Tennessee was paying around 5 times as much as we were per win (based on 2013 results). So we are effectively recruiting much more efficiently..
However, most of us might say that two or three more wins is worth doubling our cost per win..

Sorry that was kind of off topic from OP

Doesn't get better than Austin, and he deserved a considerable raise, but it was more about the increase in title and responsibilities imo.

You'd rather pay Cam 1.5 mill and last year Steele 1 mill? Cam doesn't even deserve a mill and Steele shouldn't have gotten over 800k.

Take that half a mill we grossly overpaid Cam with and put it to some good use this year. Louisiana is back down this year in recruiting from the past 3 great classes, so we'll need more feet outside of the state.

Since your question is more about Austin's salary, I'm not sure we need to entertain all the responses about the total recruiting budgets and whatnot.

It is just simple for me, if a person is that good and important to your staff (on or off the field) and you have evidence you pay less than the mean, that is all the info I need to know - pay they person what they are worth.

In the end this is just drops in the bucket compared to the spending as a whole and you also feel you would be getting your money's worth.
