Probably an attempt to increase his chances of making the majors.

His strength was in the field. This doesn't seem like it would help him make it. Sounds like almost the end of the road, but would be awesome if he was a stud catcher and made it to the bigs.

Sounds like a last ditch effort to make it up

But if he can be as good of a fielding catcher as he is a fielding shortstop and learn how to call games well he can make it to the bigs easier because it is a position where your bat is less important.

I see your point and I'm sure its probably the driver behind the move, but he's also 27 years old at this point. A position change doesn't look great for his future. Oh well how many people can say they played AAA ball like he has. He'll make it back to baton rouge and get a nice gig and be loved by all LSU fans. Pretty nice career anyway.

When he was drafted his dad told me that they wanted to move him to catcher because of quick hands, but would give him shot at SS first.

I saw that segment on the news last night, said he will start spring training on the Marlins 40 man roster.
