And true freshman running back Armoni Goodwin could be a big part of that offense. In fact, it sounds like he could end up being LSU’s go-to running back as the season progresses.

On Tuesday, 247Sports’ Billy Embody suggested that Goodwin could end up drawing comparisons to Edwards-Helaire. He also noted that Goodwin, who was rated as the No. 7 running back in the 2021 recruiting class, should play “right away” for the Tigers in 2021.

“He’s short in stature, but has plenty of wheels and looks the part physically,” wrote Embody.

Goodwin’s 247Sports recruiting profile has him listed at 5-foot-8/190 lbs. Edwards-Helaire was listed at 5-foot-7/191 lbs coming out of high school, so it’s easy to see the early comparisons.

Goodwin highlights

LSU pushed hard to get him to decommit from Auburn because they thought he was the perfect fit for the offense. He has breakaway speed to go with great lateral agility and balance.

I hate comparisons more than cancer. Let them be them.

I'm excited to see him and Kiner. I think we are going to be ok RB. It seems that other than Clyde, our running back group has been somewhat subpar the last couple of years.

We often see this about the incoming RB who has wiggle and speed, etc. What usually holds them back is learning the blocking responsibilities, when to forget about the play action that was called because an unblocked corner blitz is happening and he has to immediately block THAT instead of faking into the A gap, etc.

If he gets all of that, great. But, it generally takes a while for that part. And, in the LSU offense (expected), that is a BIG role to play.

I'm excited to see him.

You should probably re-evaluate your life. Sorry you can't get excited about a player that's draws similar measurables to an all time great at LSU.

I doubt he will pick up the offense so quickly.

While we all hope he will be great I think we can all agree he wont be a huge factor until at least November.

Pass protection is not easy for young RBs. I am sure they will have a few plays to get him in space early in the season, but its highly unlikely he will be the primary RB this year.

Goodwin is an inch too tall and a pound too light for the SEC. Sorry.

Yeah ....if you wanna be a day 1 starter as a true freshman ...then you have to be an early enrollee ....even Leonard Fournette couldn’t pull that off

I been saying this. Just a gut feel. I know Kiner will ball, but I think this Goodwin kid can come in and give us a change of pace type back this season.

TDP is going to be our primary back and he's going to have an All-SEC type year. He looks ripped and motivated and I think he's easily our most well-rounded back.

He has really good vision and reads his blocks well. He also has that extra gear. Should be a good one.

I think its more or less giving fans an idea of what type of player he is. Its easier for an average fan to picture what to expect when he's compared to a well known previous player like Clyde rather than giving a detailed description of his vertical, shuttle time, quick cut, etc.

Meh. Nothing wrong with hoping.

But for a dash of realism, how many folks were on here trumpeting that John Emery would rush for 1500 yards his first and/or second year?
