re: Are we overly critical of Brandon Harris? Dual Threat vs Pocket Passer?

No matter how anyone looks at this, it falls on the coaches. They're allowed to have more than one QB on scholarship. BH was practically handpicked by Cam himself. If he, for whatever reason, don't pan out, there should always be a plan b. The fact that we couldn't get solid QB play with all of the talent that they've surrounded the QB position with these last few seasons is frustrating to say the least. All that being said, my opinion is meaningless and I totally expect Harris to take the next step this year. frick all of you and goodnight.

People that criticize Harris really dont know shite about football.
Injury or no injury, Harris' performance against aTm last november is one of the worst ive seen in my lifetime.

Like the OP-
Mett vs Ole Miss 2013
Mett vs Clemson (bowl) 2012
I'm forever scarred

Met in those games are two of the worst games that I've seen.

I have never blamed Harris and have firmly believed it was due to coaches not playing to his strengths. I have never understood taking a guy who doesn't fit your scheme and trying to shoehorn him into it.
except Harris has stated that he came to LSU for the scheme they ran because he felt it would prepare him for the NFL

I don't care why he came here. Cam Newton rushed for a 1000+ yds in 2010 at Auburn running zone read. That didn't get him ready for the NFL. But it won auburn a national championship. Let the NFL teach him how to be a pro

I assumed that everyone who followed recruiting new that DT = Dual Threat, and PP = Pocket Passer. My bad. BUT, nothing a like this comment from a total dick head.

Harris is a tall guy with a huge arm. It's not like he's Kyler Murray. Had he been developed and not forced to play so early, it's not hard to foresee that he'd have a better grasp of the offense as a junior making his first starts.

Although I disagree with you, ESPN QBR says that at least as far as the Clempson game is concerned, it was worse.
Maybe so. The three picks in Ole miss ring burned

Aside from his early lack of "leadership",inability to grasp the play-book and the tendency to melt under pressure...he's been on a relatively slow learning curve. Hope he's figured it out because w/o significant improvement,I see a similar finish to last year.

You know what else burned? Watching that defense give up 525 yards.
I get you wanna blame mett for that loss, because it helps your narrative that mett wasnt that good, but the defense in 2013 blew nuts.

Defense is an entirely different topic. The outcome is irrelevant. How he performed speaks for itself. Hell, he performed poorly in a number games we won (I.e. Florida 2013). Don't get me wrong, he was obviously a good QB. But the not Holy Grail of LSU QBs
I don't need him to have been bad to make Brandon seem better. The numbers show that Mett was pretty good, and that Brandon is progressing.
Btw - it's not my narrative.

Not really understanding the Kyler Murray comparison (short QB with a huge arm), who played fairly well at aTm (considering the circumstances). I think having the kid on the field early helps his development. When you are on the field, it's on the job training. you can either coach to your strength or coach to Brandons.
