Tweet from Dellenger
quote:

Some news here in New York, per sources: #LSU’s Dave Aranda, mentioned already at Colorado State, is also in the mix at #UNLV. He’s the highest-paid assistant in the country and wants to be a head coach. School has spoken to #Oregon OC Marcus Arroyo and Matt Canada.

EDIT: UNLV deal could be done within 24 hours (Feldman)

Are Colorado State and UNLV even jobs that people should entertain?

For what purpose, to say you were a HC?

That’s generally how you become a head coach of a big school

If Aranda leaves I have to think that Jeff Hafley would be at the top of the list for his replacement.

You get a shot to run your own program, if things don't work out you can always go back to being a DC.

Hope he doesn't leave. But if he does, can we get Bo Pelini back as a DC? His defenses were pretty good -- except he doesn't like to blitz.

Aranda makes more money than any coach in the Mountain West.

UNLV’s past coach made $600k a year.

Aranda makes $2.5mil

CSU and UNLV- nah pass.

If that’s the best to offer this cycle for me, than I’m staying put making my $2.5m as DC for a national power.

I understand he wants to be a HC, but it would surprise me if he’s successful as a HC just based on his personality. I can’t picture him wanting to go home to home and sell himself and the university.

Both those schools have loads of untapped potential.

CSU was the stepping stone for McElwain to get the UF job.

Colorado State is not a bad job. I would not consider UNLV.

Obviously in this case if he was considering them, then its not even remotely about the money but finally getting a shot as a HC.

It doesn't look like any major programs have even sniffed around him, so he may think he needs to just get his HC job anywhere and hopefully succeed.

If coordinators and position coaches are getting HC jobs in our league, he knows he can cherry pick his job.

If that's the case, he'll have options at better schools.

I would imagine Bill Busch would get the job if Aranda left.
