We grew up across the street from each other in Denham Springs, reconnected briefly after college, and I'm curious if he's back in Louisiana.
Any help would be appreciated.

Back in Denham Springs, coaching his son's baseball team.

Last time I saw him, he was thrown out of a little league game and had to be escorted out of the park. He is a huge arse hole.

Never new him to be that way.
Then again, maybe coaching in Denham Springs requires people to change the way they act based on my experience growing up and playing ball out there.

Yes and a pretty arrogant coach at that. And Very rough on his players. Coached against him several times last few years with 10 year olds thru now with 12's and have seen stuff that is just shocking from a coach of kids this age

I've never known him to be like that either. My dad's known him since he was in high school (he was his youth pastor) and he used to get us tickets when he played for the Astros and the Devil Rays. We haven't heard from him in a while though, especially after he dropped to the minors.

False
Great guy that really knows the game.....he has worked w/ my son on numerous occassions and taught him a lot.
As far as how he coaches these tournament teams......He may be a lil' rough around the edges but he also has KNOWLEDGE of the game and will not compromise these kids which is more than I can say for many of em who charge you $2k and up to play and only care about winning.

He definitely is a good guy who is just ultra-competitive. Big role model for me when I was growing up going to his Major League games.

Didnt say he didnt know the game or wasnt an effective coach / teacher of fundamentals but when you are screaming from your 3rd base coaches spot to a kid on first that he can pack his shite and leave if he gets picked off at first is taking things to far. And Ive seen worse than that from him as well.

Yea yall can say what you want, but it is a fact that he is an arse hole.

He was a good guy growing up, loyal as the day is long. He was always a solid athlete, and super-competitive. Once when he was playing at LSU with Brian Winders (RHP), Russ called a timeout, went to the mound, and told Brian he would whip his a$$ if he gave up another hit. And he wasn't joking.
I love that guy!

You are thinking of Springer. Johnson last played in the Majors in 05 and never played for St. Louis.

I was there when he was coaching at Baton Rouge in the YBBR in the 9-10 league when he went balistic after an umpires call and was ejected. I believe that was his last game to coach in that league. It was a shame that he couldn't control his temper because he could have helped those youngsters

guess it depends on when you knew Johnson, before drugs or before he found God?

He lives in Denham, is an arrogant dick who loves talking about himself, and makes his money on hunting trips up in Kansas on some land he manages for people. Huge a-hole. Great player.

Russ lives in Denham Springs with his wife and 2 boys. My 13 year old has played on his team the last 2 years and absolutely loves the game of baseball because of everything Russ has taught him. He is a wonderful coach that teaches the game the way it was meant to be played. He loves his players and teaches them not only about baseball but about life. Yes, his expectations are high and he is tough on his kids, but he is preparing them to play at the high school level where the coaches are even tougher. His players love and respect him as a coach and a teacher. They would run through a brick wall for their coach.
