RHP Grant Taylor, a projected weekend starter and the No. 15 prospect in the 2023 #MLBDraft class by
@d1baseball, will miss the 2023 season because of a UCL injury. #LSU clearly has depth, but Taylor had an incredible fall.

If he has the surgery soon, he will be fine for next year. Can’t wait.

Leah Vann just tweeted it too.

That’s a HUUUUUUGE bummer.

That’s why you gotta stockpile arms.

Maybe in a limited final stretch run for 2023

TJ is 14-16 months recovery. With very much of an ease back into things

Now there’s a new surgery for TJ that has cut down on recovery time but not many have done this

mine was 12. Determann was 10.

Obviously everyone isn’t the same

But for recent surgeries professional organizations have their players missing 13+ months and into 14-16 months.

Like I said, LSU is usually pretty on top of new surgeries and I wish I knew more of the new TJ procedure which is 6-8 months recovery, I think. Very interested to see what path Taylor takes.

Didn't you originally think it wasn't a big deal and that it was from a fall?

Did he actually tear his UCL falling? That's nuts. That's Lane Mestepeay level bad luck.

I did. 2 pitches before, he was covering first and awkwardly fell. I thought that’s why the inning was stopped… as a precaution. I was obviously wrong. It happened during a pitcher after the fall.

New surgery is called an Internal brace UCL surgery. Uses an internal collagen “brace” to repair existing torn ligaments rather than using a tendon from typically the forearm or hamstring to use as the graft. Usually this tendon has to then go through a long process to essentially transform from tendon properties (stretchy and more dynamic) to ligament properties (sturdy and more stabilizing). In the new surgery, it’s ligament put in a brace to heal on its own, with support. Obviously more complex than that, but that’s the gist.

So far has had pretty good outcomes, but not every tear is a candidate. Depends on how much of the ligament is intact and usable. Still the timetable is determined by the rehab and how well he strengthens after the surgery. Which is typically why people gain velocity after Tommy John.

Well, at least it's not evidence of this team being cursed. If he had torn it during a fall...
