Team is amazing so far watching guys try out different positions, power all over the place , getting lots of different guys at the plate also with power, 2-3 seem to be ace pitchers most of our pitchers hit their 2 and 3rd pitches consistently even our rotational guys. Wes was/ is an amazing hire by Jay. Fielding is top notch also so far obviously which is huge too.
But this leads me to ask who are we playing? Some of these teams I have no idea about. Especially last weekend against teams first damn game of the season down here at a packed Box in awe of the environment. That wasn’t good timing for them but I’m sure amazing at the same time. Ha almost put 30 up that one game. Jeez, that was brutally awesome though.

I mean talk to me Baseball guys and gals, what exactly separates this team from A&M who we play next week? Or are even you guys not sure yet?
The reason why I ask is I have zero idea about how we compare to other teams. Other than the ones we just beat the shite out of.
Just curious of your thoughts in where we are at with the baseball knowledge you have by following these other good teams or talking to coaches whatever. Let’s here it.

Quick analysis:
fielding is much improved and should continue to be good, but we aren't getting as many chances as normal since we have so many strikeouts against lesser opponents. Therefore, fielding % will go down during SEC play;
2)hitting and power has been great, except against top quality pitching. Has only been fair in those instances(Iowa and Texas); both will settle slightly although we have good hitters and great power;
3)pitching is exceptional and will continue to be so but we all know that good SEC teams will hit us better than our OOC opponents; We have enough depth to combat even the occasional bad outing by one of our starters since the bullpen is deep.
Overall, stay healthy, pay attention to each game, and play the game the right way and the TIgers should be in Omaha competing for number 7!

Well, thankfully, threads like these will no longer be needed soon. We’re all about to find out.

It's the middle of March. Nobody knows shite either way right now. LSU fans should know this.

You typically don't know what you have until mid-April. So we still have a long ways to go. But there's no doubt that this team is better than what we've had the last couple years. We will see. It really just comes down to who's hot in June anyway

This is as good as I have seen them look early in all aspects of the game in quite some time.

SEC play is going to be tough.

These 7-inning games will be a thing of the past.

Waiting until after the first 2 SEC weekends to draw any analysis. Just enjoying the season thus far.

LSU is actually closer to the bottom of the SEC in strikeouts although the gap isn't very big but people act like we are striking out way more batters than everyone else

What about K/9? We’ve played a pretty significant less amount of innings compared to most SEC teams.

We aren’t playing good teams. But we also don’t have errors every other inning like last year and we are winning like we should. Not 2-1 games like before.

Yep. I’m wondering if we are that good or are these teams just terrible.

But we are spanking teams like the 2013 FSU football team did. Yeah the teams they played sucked, but they housed them. Thays what we are doing.

This is a good point. I couldn’t find a stat on it and I’m not spending the time to do the math myself but LSU has the best opposing batting average at .167 with Tenn being the next closest at 1.82

Fielding translates regardless of team we’re playing, as does an umpires strike zone and power. So extra base hits, defensive play, and not walking batters are the only things you can draw conclusions about. This weekend will start to answer the questions of exactly how elite the rest of it is.

We are beating the teams we should like we should. This team is very confident. My concern is the strikeouts. Thompson and Jobert in their current form will struggle mightily against better pitching. The pitchers we’ve been facing are basically high school level for the most part.

LSU would never do this in the dugout

It is a little bit of both. We are good and they are bad.
Things will level off starting this weekend.
I’d like to think we will win 20 in conference play, but there really is no way to know that yet.
We won’t be playing home run derby in SEC play. I expect some of the newer guys to struggle at the plate a little bit. Kling, Jones, Neal. They will be good hitters, but I expect them to have a rough time in conference.

Defense should look pretty much the same, which is awesome so far.

We are just that good. It's because of the new transfer rules obviously. Problem is, there are about 9-10 teams that are also 'that' good too because of the transfer portal, and 4 of them are in the SEC

It’s baseball. You do not 10 run rule 6 of your last 7 games by just other teams being bad.
