Last year's announcement came on May 7th, so i guess it will be soon. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything on when to expect it this year. The only thing i have seen on it is that it will be a one day event on January 30th. Based on last year and with the addition of Ben Simmons I'm guessing we'll get either Kansas, Iowa St. or Oklahoma in the PMAC with Kansas being the most likely opponent.

Kansas would be the best case scenario. Not sure they don't pair them with UK though unless they already are scheduled to play each other.

I definitely think they do Kansas vs UK.

Iowa St or Oklahoma would be the most obvious options.

Neither have played a true away game in the Big12/SEC challenges two year stint, so either would likely get shipped to Baton Rouge.

All three of those teams should be top 10 to start the season.

Its only been two years, but for the most part it looks like they have tried to not let teams have home games two years in a row. Kansas and kentucky both had homes games in the challenge last year. Uk and ku did play earlier last year though.

I was gonna point out that it isn't the start of the season it's the end of January but then I saw it was southofsouth and said to my self he knows this don't try to act like you know more about this team then him ha. Then I realized you meant top ten ranked to start the season. Don't mind me it's take me a while to get going in the morning

Iowa St has played 2 home games and Oklahoma has played a home and a neutral.

If they have proven anything, to me, it's that they like to try and put the two best teams against each other and trickle down what they believe is the best matchups (then probably moving teams up or down a spot to fulfill home/away problems).

I think iowa st. is the only team that's played twice and hasn't played On the road. OU played texas a&m in houston. That's about as neutral as kentucky playing baylor in arlington.

I think Iowa St would be a really fun matchup. They play up-tempo and have long guards.

Yea. Oklahoma will probably be the least likely to be good after losing Buddy Hield to the draft. He was a stud.

Last I saw he was coming back for his Sr. year (as of 4/24) Did something change?

Any of those three teams would be great. That would make at least 2 quality non-conference home games.

It's interesting that they're sticking it right in the heart of conference play this year. A bit of a throwback to 15+ years ago when big time OOC games were routinely played during conf. play. I wonder how the coaches feel about it?

It makes sense for exposure purposes. Although the regular season is over, December is still "football season" for many fans of SEC and Big 12 schools. Late January is about the time most casual basketball fans start to focus their full attention on basketball. I would love to see Kansas come to the PMAC, but I just don't think ESPN would turn down a Kan./UK matchup (likely at a neutral site)

I think LSU ends up playing Iowa St., Baylor or Oklahoma. If I had to bet, I'd say it will be Iowa St. due to their style of play matching LSU's. It would be a fun game for the neutral or casual fan to watch.

I love it, though it will be a nice break for the 4 teams who don't get to play one of the games... It will be really exciting and should bring a ton of fans out for sure.

Totally agree. UK vs Kansas is the most obvious choice and I'd be shocked not to see that matchup.

100% agree here also. Iowa St is the most intriguing to me and I think the same for ESPN. I mean they did similar with LSU vs WVU getting fast paced teams and they knocked that one out of the park. That game was so fun.

Just read that Kentucky is already playing Kansas earlier in the year so that could give ESPN reason to give us Kansas... Of course they could still put UK v Kansas but that could be reason enough to move LSU up the board to play KU.

You have to think that LSU will be #2 on SEC teams people want to watch because Simmons and Blakeney, plus the fact that we should be a really solid team.

I don't know about uk vs. ku. Their game on espn last year wasn't exactly a classic. Espn does love to match up superstars like ben simmons against big name teams too.

honestly if they announce it in the next week or so i think we would have a pretty decent chance of getting Kansas. With all the chatter about the top recruiting class and ben simmons, plus the fact that kansas and kentucky played last year.

but im with yall I would love to see Iowa State for the uptempo matchup

Well if that's true, then I definitely think LSU/KU is more realistic. I doubt UK and KU want to play each other twice in the same season. The only other realistic options (IMO) for KU would be:

1. Mizzou - Should be a no-brainer as these two were long time rivals. However, Mizzou is in a complete rebuild and the matchup wouldn't be even. I guess it's still a possibility though

2. Ark - who should still be good, but down after losing their two best players. Bud Walton is a good atmosphere though and it's a fairly regional matchup

3. A&M - should be really good, but KU vs. A&M isn't really an attention grabbing matchup, especially since they used to be conf. foes. Not a lot of novelty there

4. Florida - They played each other last season in this event and who knows what the hell will happen without Donovan

Really, other than MAYBE A&M, LSU/KU makes the most sense. I would love to see it happen and be announced early. That would really get some more momentum going into basketball season

Unfortunately Kansas will be playing a home game in the big12/sec challenge.
