Okay, I am fully aware that I am going to get flamed for this.y anus is prepared. But I am being serious, and speaking from a perspective of compassion and team-first philosophy.

I would like to get your thoughts on this disciplinary plan for TM7:
5-game suspension
Heightened curfew
Extra stadium steps/gasses
No media access
No social media

The 5 game suspension would make it impossible for him to put up nearly enough stats to be in contention for any postseason awards or other individual honors. However, it would allow him to come back and play for the TEAM and the team alone, with no individual award aspirations. I think this would instill a sense of humility and team spirit that this young man obviously lacks.

Flame away, but I think this would really help him learn to be less selfish.

Because you can't arbitrarily change the rules for certain players.

This wasn't an athletic dept decision. He got kicked out of school.

Can you confirm that he was kicked out of school? I've seen this debated a lot today but no definitive answer. It seemed to me that the decision came from the athletic dept.

I agree that no one is bigger than LSU. I love LSU, and that's all the more reason why I think they should have put some thought into a plan to help one of its best representatives.

At what point do you stop giving someone a 2nd, 3rd, 4th chance?

Would you have started this thread if TM was the 4th team fullback? To have control of team and player's respect rules and consequences must apply to all players. And believe me this was not his "3rd" time.

To quote The Dark Knight Rises, "institutions often become our shackles." Rigid rules often preclude compassion and the human element of these types of situations.

To the original post. Not kicking him off the team and giving him another chance has been tried already and it still hasn't worked. What make you think one more chance would make the difference? How many times does he have to fail before YOU say enough is enough?

I know it's been tried, with a one-game suspension being the harshest penalty until today. What bothers me is the jump from that to a complete dismissal. Can't you at least see the merits of my proposal, in that it punishes him individually while still allowing him to contribute to the team?

I think without knowing exactly why he was kicked off, it is hard to speculate.

I think I like your idea. If it is getting kicked out of school, is the school drug testing every student on scholarship, or TOPS?

We pretty much know it's drug-related, and we can probably rule out the hard stuff because he was able to compete athletically and didn't look like a druggie.

This coupled with his history strongly suggests that it was marijuana, a substance that may not even be harmful enough to be prohibited. The way he played at the beginning of last season seems to refute the govertards stance on weed...

I guarantee you that there is more between getting suspended for the AU game last year to what went down today.

We just aren't getting told the details and IMO we shouldn't.

I hardly think it was something like, "Well, remember back in Oct. when you got suspended for doing this? Well, that's it now. I don't care if you are a Heisman finalist and one of the best DBs in the country..... you're done." No way in hell it went down like that. Not a chance.

He was given chances after making infractions, whatever they may be, certain ones are more serious than others, but after a few chances, you have to say enough.

See Ryan Perrilloux. Thankfully Mathieu isn't a QB.

There's more to what we know, is what I'm saying.

Exactly, it's only the athletes. While I agree that performance enhancing drugs should be stringently prohibited, weed offers no proven advantage in athletic competition.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying that you proposal is wrong. The problem with it though is that the school has rules with penalties already set for what he did.

If there wasn't written down that the penalty for his infraction was what was handed down then your penalty would seem to fit the crime.

But I can no way support changing the rules just to keep him on the team.

I say follow the rules... take that scholarship and give it to a player that has done everything right.

Why risk having a repeat offender on the team so that when he does something stupid AGAIN in the middle of the season, that it becomes a mid season distraction for the team. There are a hundred other players on this team and it would be wrong to put their season at risk to accommodate a repeat offender.
