Football season and recruiting class. Ould be saved. BB season is lost cause. FWIW, this was a big discussion on Hannigrif and Ott show this morning. They agreed with waiting until end of season

ChewyDante, excuse my curiosity, but why the ME - 109 on your site?

WWII aviation buff. Love the 109. Swiss heritage so had to roll with the Swiss edition.

I guess it's settled then.

Every blowout loss under Jones is a step in the wrong direction for the program. Even if we were still getting blown out under an interim, at least we'd have the interim excuse. Potential coaches are seeing an AD that can't even pretend like he cares.

Someone will probably complain re personal conversation, but so be it (don't know how to do any other way - being ignorant with blogs)

109 way ahead of time tech with cannon firing thru prop & 1st air to air radar ( I think) in WWII.

20mm through the engine block and the spinner on the F and G series. Earlier E series had a configuration that housed 2 cannons in the wings. It never lacked in firepower or horsepower. Turning was not it's strong suit, however, and turning fights were inadvisable. Went through about as many upgrades and remodels on the original airframe as possible and was roughly 10 years olds by war's end (which was an eternity by the period's standards). Also one of the only fighter designs of the war, to my knowledge, to utilize wing slats.

Here's a pretty cool doc on the 109 if you are interested in a full history: LINK

ETA: No radar. German night fighters did utilize a very primitive air to air radar system.

I think both sides of this argument have a good point. We know that it will be at the end of this season.

The main thing is to hope and pray that Alleva comes up with a solid coaching hire, though I wish someone else was making that decision.

Two reasons why the change may not be made until after the season:

1. When Miles was fired the team still had a chance to win the conference and an outside shot at the playoffs. So not an apples to apples comparison in my view.

2. Joe may not want local politics to influence who the next coach is. You can only imagine the pressure the daddy dale and temple types would put on him if Livingston was the interim and had moderate success.

Just my two cents

he doesn't give a shite about basketball,

Never had to, lets be honest, Duke basketball ran itself. MS had way way way more say so in issues than Alleva.

There was pressure to fire Miles because influential people who care about football wanted him gone. The influential people who care about basketball (Collis Temple and Dale Brown) want Jones to be the coach.

That's a fair take.

I'd say another reasonable answer is that Alleva wanted to accomplish 2 thing with the early move in football:

1.) He wanted to salvage the season (this was successful, IMO...almost hugely successful)
2.) He wanted to get a jump on the hiring process to guarantee the right hire (this was unsuccessful.)

Personally, I don't think they will allow Alleva to replace the basketball coach. He probably realizes that this is a possibility and that suggesting the firing of a coach may implicitly be suggesting his own firing. The timing is very, very bad for Alleva.

If it were this time next year, and Orgeron were outperforming expectations, he could pull it off. I don't think he can pull it off right now.
