Well, he is on the college basketball selection committee and is required to be at the games. So there's that reason.

Yes. Because he is on the selection committee and was required to be at some other tournament location, he couldn't be at the LSU vs. NC State game in the opening round.
I don't know the exact rule of why selection committee members have to be at the games. That's just what I heard him say in an interview on the radio.

This is a stupid thread. Thanks for clearing it up to the poster. Some of you geniuses may realize that Alleva being on the selection committee may have helped LSU in getting a #9 seed this year. Also to the genius who wrote that maybe he went to see a real coach, I bet Coach Jones has accomplished more in his career than you have in yours'.
