Where will Lange go? Where will Deichmann go?

If that is so funny

I said this last week. Scouts know Lange for the most part. But this "new" Deichmann has them excited. Multiple scouts started getting on the phone and recording his last ABs after he turned the wind around completely for 421 ft. It's an interesting discussion to speculate how much money he has earned already. His arm is above average. And he's making a play or two above average too. Again, it's not "bashing" Lange to say he may not be picked in the top 15.

If the draft were today, I don't think he wouldn't sniff the 1st round. Or maybe the 2nd. Like others have said, there's a million right handlers who throw 92. If you aren't throwing mid/upper 90s, you better have great command to go in the 1st. And he doesn't have that at all right now. He's talented though, and likes to compete. Hopefully he'll fight through this an return to his freshman form. But right now, that freshman season appears to be the aberration.

the questions will start rolling in about his ability and composure.

My analytical side:

His fastball speed seems to be fine. However, he does not have movement like Aaron Nola did. Consequently, teams have been able to put the fat part of the barrel on many of his fastballs this year.

Like Big Ben has stated, when he struggles with command early in the count, he has to come across the heart of the plate more often, hoping for a swing and miss.

He hasn't developed a reliable change up, either.

Not sure if he needs to work more with a 2 seamer to generate more movement, or throw fastballs with less than max velocity so he can regain some accuracy. Anxious to see what he and Dunn do to regain his dominance.

My rantard side:

He's getting pounded more often in 2017. He is also sporting those 2017 tats, all-white spikes, and that mean glare after strikeouts. His pregame ritual appears to be an unproductive mind game.

None of those things seems to have improved his consistency, so therefore that's got to be the problem.

Deichman can run, hit for power, is an above average speed and arm, his defense needs work and he needs to continue to take pitches laying off the bad stuff.
Yeah he will definitely pass Lange if he continues to develop.
Deichman has major league talent.

Lange doesn't have a change of any kind and little movement on his FB. Right now he is sitting at compensatory to mid second round. There are much better pitchers out there including on his own team, but he won't be picked before the 4th because of his upside is so limited.
Lange has a bigger upside.

I think not developing a third pitch will hurt his stock as much as anythin

Where are all these college pitchers with a legit 3rd pitch. Most pitchers dont develop a decent 3rd pitch until its their job to throw pitches.

These clubs hire people that know a lot more than I do, but they will be trying to find out if he has peaked early (which is possible) or if he can still develop.

Then he better throw gasoline or be like Aaron Nola with movement and command to be a 1st rounder. Also, it's not just college pitchers he's competing with, it's high school seniors too. And all things being equal, I think most--certainly not all(I think the A's for one really value college experience)--would rather have the 18-year-old over the 21-year-old.

Right now is "performing" as our third best pitcher. I'm not talking about history or talent. Hope he hits his groove in June.

Ok here you go since you have no capability to understand this.

Anthony Ranaudo had a very disappointing Junior Year and still went at the end of the 1st Round(between rounds I think)

When you use "his" to refer to someone implied when you've already explicitly mentioned someone, that's on you, not the reader.

Agreed.
My post wasnt in reference to Lange. It was about not having a legit 3rd pitch. There are very few college or hs pitchers with legit 3rd pitches that are consistently thrown for outs.

Lange looks more like Ryan Eades then Renaudo. Scouts liked his projectible frame but his velocity actually got worse(AR)

Deichmann reminds me of Jared Mitchell somewhat. His tools standout so much that it over shadows the few holes in his game. Or Jacoby Jones. But if Deichmann keeps this pace jones can't really hold his jock.

I was about to start a thread asking if Deichmann has a chance to go ahead of him.

I don't think it's "bashing" Lange to say that he's probably going to go in the bottom of the first rather than the top. But I think that's where he is right now.

Deichmann on the other hand has made a ton of money this year. Unreal power. Ability to go the opposite way (the shifts last night were a joke). 1000x pitch selection compared to last year. And that's without any consistent protection behind him. He's improving in the field, too.

It will be interesting to see who goes first.

Congrats to both Tigers!
