Baseball throwing motion is very unnatural and pitching in particular puts a ton of strain on the ligaments in the elbow and shoulder. They essentially put all of their lower body strength and rotational torque into each throw and that's a heavy load for such fragile joints, especially if you consider how the arm starts up high above the head, then twists and violently slings downward and forward. Then the arm comes to an abrupt halt in the follow through. Much more unnatural motion than that of a softball pitcher for example

So basically if you pitch long enough, your arm is toast? And I thought kids ran from football to baseball because of injury concerns.

Pitcher is just 1 of 9 positions. It's still a contact sport, but with a much lower risk of injury and, most importantly, concussions.

Not necessarily toast, but virtually all pitchers deal with multiple arm injuries during their career.
