eferees told media after the game that flag was thrown for turning to crowd and drawing attention to himself. Nothing about him saying "frick LSU" - get your facts straight.

my "facts" are not facts, but an observation of what I saw on the replays of that call. close up in HD, it's what I saw.

I heard late last night the officials clarified the call later by saying it was something Green did after celebrating with his team mates.

I agree. And yes it did change the game. It gave LSU great field position.

I agree it was a BS call, but if that is what gave LSU great field position, then how come the penalty on C Scott didn't give UGA great field position?

Special teams play had more to do with our field position than the call.

this is how I know

quote:

Asked for an explanation of the penalty, the SEC issued a statement from the officiating crew - headed by referee Marc Curles - that said the penalty was called on Green because "following a brief team celebration, Green made a gesture to the crowd calling attention to himself."

hindsight is always 20/20, but kicking ball out of bounds would have saved UGA 22 yards in field position (LSU would have gotten ball on own 40 instead of UGA 38)

i wonder when it would be a good idea to go ahead and kick out of bounds. reason i ask that is because we were in exact same situation and shut UGA down inside their own 35

You know what changed the game?

UGA 3rd & long, Alem comes off the edge clean & is headed toward Cox's backside with what appears to be a very hard hit...the OT for UGA tackles Alem, allowing Cox time to complete a pass to convert the 3rd down.

kicking off from the 15 yard line didnt change the outcome?

keep telling yourself that

You have no way to know for sure, but look at it this way:
1. Charles Scott, broke away, the goal line could have been in the Student Union, he would have scored.
2. Saying he would or would not have gotten the ball is a fallacy in analyzing "what if"'s in football. We outplayed them the first half and only looked more vulnerable in the 3rd quarter, and we still held them scoreless until the 4th. Do you think LSU, who has found a way to make 4th quarter magic happen far more often than not, could not have gained the 15 yard difference in the time we had remaining?
3. UGA got the same call right after, KNEW they had to get the ball to the goal line, and still couldn't come close.

The game was LSU's, and like last year, we played a lot better than what the points we had suggested.

it looked like he said something to me, he was in that big pile of teammates and said something and you could see the ref in the background pull out the flag

Hard to say if it changed the outcome of the game. Charles Scott would have scored from 50 yards on his TD run.

Hard to tell if strategies would have changed, if LSU would have gotten an additional 15 yards....etc.

For those who say it definitely changed the game, you are wrong. It MAY have, it may not have. Scott would have scored from 50, LSU could easily have picked up 15 yards....too many variables.

There's no way the penalty should have been called

Wrong!

NCAA Rule

After a touchdown a player shall either (A) hand the ball to an official, or (B) gently lay the ball on the ground.

He didn't comply so he was tagged with a 15 yard unsportsmanlike foul.

EVERY PLAYER knows this, but you bitch when it is called (and it is called A LOT). It is there, and 100% easy to avoid. It's not like pass interference to prevent an endzone catch. It is totally ancillary, and there is no excuse for it.

It did the change the outcome of the game. Make no mistake. We will take the gift but don;t pretend it did not impact the game.

It makes up for the pushing-off penalties that weren't called on him.

This is complete nonsense. Your statements means that "but for" that penalty, LSU does not win the game. And you cannot say that with any infinitesimal slice of certainty.
