Acceptable Pass vs Run ratio?

Last year LSU averaged 66.6 plays a game. What do you think is a good ratio for run vs pass plays per game? I would like to see 55-60 pass vs 40-45 run. Pass to set up the run. 18 times to receivers, 8 times to tight end, 6 times to running back, 3 to full back per game. Considering the amount of plays per game, 35 passes a game is a nice number and spreading it out to all of our weapons and utilizing them all. Not doing so is like having two perfectly good hands and only ever using one of them.

With the work horses we have
50/50
If we have a nice lead
70/30
If we are playing catch up
30/70

To be honest, I dont know care too much about the ratio. As long as we keep defenses honest and guessing, I dont think the ratio should matter too much. Also, I have no idea if Im right here but we should stop running specific plays out of specific formations. Try to have multiple options/audibles out of a formation

Yeah I agree with you on a 60/40 ratio. The run game under Les Miles will always be dominant in the grand scheme of his play calling with Cameron, but they just have to up the ante this season on the passing as everyone knows. His job and this season depends on it. Last year it was more 80/20 with some games it being 90/10. Just ridiculous, but just too much fire power there this season to run, run, and run this time out. Dural, Dupre, Smith, Chark, Jeter, Landry along with youngsters Davis, Sullivan, Anderson. Those guys need to see the football to keep them happy! Also, Fournette and Guice out of the back field. Just ridiculous weapons everywhere to not pass the ball on a regular basis.

Run: 60
Pass: 40
If you have Fournette, Guice, and Williams you should always run more than pass. However, those runs should involve misdirection.
The passes should be things to keep the linebackers honest. Passes to tight ends either on short out routes or seams will have them on their heels. If you also hit a good seam route, it will force the safety to stay up top as well which will then help the outside receivers.
But overall, with our running backs, it should always be a heavier run ratio than pass.

I believe last season we passed 36.80%. Imagine if there was more execution and a little better gameplanning? I like our odds this season with more experienced players.

This is so stupid. This is exactly what Les has been doing wrong, except with the run. He's running his plays no matter what. You take what the defense gives you and mismatch against their weaknesses. You need to have the flexibility to adjust during the game if they're stopping your game plan. This is Les' biggest fault.
You're just another Monday morning QB tard in the office that doesn't know what he's talking about.

I think more first down, play action passes is the key to loosening Def's up.

agreed...smash mouthed SEC football is what we play and always will. with the weapons that we have, the running game will be our game if we want to continue winning.

Pass/Run ratio isn't the problem. It is predictability of the offense.
It could be 70/30 run if we kept the other team guessing on what we were going to do bc we have personnel on the field that are a threat to do both.

65 run 35 pass maybe even 70/30. With the backfield we have there's no way you can't ride those boys. Don't get me wrong there will be times the passing game will be counted on and will need to deliver, but for the most part Run Babyyy Run

Being balanced isn't a ratio. It's the ability to do both. 7+ in the box and you can throw. 6 or less in the box and you run.

Yep. LSU has won a bunch of games due to talent, but recently the predictability of Les has caught up to him in the SEC west.

I would love for someone to link a 90-10 run ratio with a box score link. Good luck with the 80-20 as well

this. keep the defense honest by being able to execute pass plays as well as run plays. and, as you say, not telegraph the play. we HAVE TO stop bama's all out front 7 run blitz that completely obliterated our blockers whether we were running or passing.
imo, you take what the defense gives you if the talent level of their team is close. but, you have to be able to take it. if you can't successfully run a screen pass (it ain't all on the qb) it ceases to be a threat.
