As I understand it, Chavis had a buyout of $400,000 if he quit before Dec 31st, and LSU is expecting him to pay that buyout.

Is this correct? If so, what the hell is wrong the LSU AD?

Do you have nothing other than this to bring to the discussion?

LSU will have to sue Chavis to get this money.

That's not happening. Alleva just ran his mouth because he's getting a TON of criticism and he's trying to look tough.

Um, when the dude tells the head coach on Dec 30 that he is taking the A&M job, that equals before jan 1, 2015.

Verbal agreements count as well, which are believed to have happened before then

A verbal agreement to work somewhere on Jan 1st does not constitute quitting your current job.

LSU will sue Chavis to get that money. Dude was very unprofessional on his way out the door. He was the 3rd highest paid asst coach in the country, and his defenses couldn't hold teams down enough for Jeremy Hill, Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry, and Zach Mettenberger to win games. Then in 2014 he gets torched by Miss St and Auburn so Les Miles decides to run a goalline offense all game long just to keep the defense off the field.

Then, LSU still offers him a pay raise and he cries about it.

Give us $400,000 so we can give it to our next DC.

So A&M had contact with Chavis prior to the conclusion of his contract?

Good luck. It's absurd to act like he owes that money. It's unethical. It's complete and total bullshite. And it will make other coaches think twice about dealing with LSU.

Everyone saw the game on December 30th.

It is clear he quit prior.

They won't win the suit. And the Lawyers will rack up about 50K in billables. It's not happening.

You won't need $400K for your next DC. They AD will probably try to sneak some termination clause in their deal so they don't have to pay.

Given the defensive performance against ND, I'd say they have a good case
